After a seemingly endless spate of speculations, Motorola has officially announced its Moto Z2 Force Android smartphone. The handset will go on sale on August 10 and will be available on every major U.S. carrier. However, smartphone enthusiasts can already place a pre-order for the mobile device for about $720.

According to Motorola’s official website, the tech company has slashed the price of its latest flagship smartphone by $80. At the time of launch, the company priced the smartphone at $800, GSM Arena reported. But, the price drop will surely entice potential buyers, as the original $100 increase in price over its predecessor was certainly not welcomed.

While the $800 price point could possibly slow down the pre-order of the Moto Z2 Force, it could be the company’s reason for the sudden slash in the price. Nonetheless, the company made it known that the initial pricing of the Android smartphone was an error.

Meanwhile, according to XDA Developers, there's also something special about the screen of the smartphone.

It is equipped with Moto ShatterShield technology, which is designed not to crack or shatter, and the new handset’s predecessor, Moto Z Force, can vouch for it.

Smartphone with ShatterShield technology

With the ShatterShield technology in the handset, users can drop the device as many times as they want and the handset won’t shatter. This is something that the company started doing about 3 years ago, and Motorola has continued to innovate on it.

Specs of the device

The Moto Z2 Force could be the most powerful smartphone the Lenovo-owned Motorola would roll out this year so far, and its specs can prove it. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 system on chip (SoC) with Adreno 540 GPU, paired with a 4GB of RAM and a 64GB of internal storage, expandable up to 256GB through microSD. The handset will boast a 5.5-inch Quad HD AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution. The Moto Z2 Force smartphone will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box.

On the camera front, the primary camera will have a dual 12MP with f/2.0 and phase detection autofocus, while the secondary camera will be equipped with a 5MP with f/2.2 and a dual-LED flash.

In terms of connectivity, the mobile device is packed with a Wi-Fi 802.11, A-GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 and a USB Type-C 1.0 reversible connector. In addition, the smartphone will have a non-removable Li-Ion 2730mAh battery.
