Sony is reportedly working on two new premium smartphones, which are known only by their model numbers, G8341 and G8441. Some fans have speculated that these models are none other than the Sony Xperia XZ1 and the Xperia XZ1 Compact, respectively. Rumors regarding these two upcoming handsets from Sony have been coming in constantly, and now the G8341 device, which is likely the Xperia XZ1, has been spotted on GeekBench.

Sony G8341 GeekBench listing

The GeekBench listings offer some relevant information regarding upcoming handsets. In this case the benchmarking portal has revealed that the Sony Xperia XZ1 will likely be powered by the latest octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset.

This means that the phone will also boast an Adreno 540 GPU. The inclusion of this premium SoC suggests that the device will also be high-end in its other specs and features.

The listing also detailed that the handset was running on the Android 7.1.1 Nougat operating system, which is also the latest build of Google’s platform. 4 GB of RAM was also present under the hood, bringing the G8341 into the high-tiered section of the market. Performance wise as well, the device does not seem to disappoint.

The GeekBench listing reveals that the device racked up 1909 points in its single core tests. On the other hand, the device fared no worse in the multi-score tests with an impressive score of 6459 points.

However, the benchmarking website does not list any other relevant information about the impending handset from Sony, but earlier rumors have already indicated what some of its specs may be.

Earlier rumors of the phone

This is not the first time that information regarding the upcoming Sony handset has been leaked. In May this year, rumors were rife that Sony would launch three new handsets in its Xperia series, which were said to include the Xperia XZ1, Xperia XZ1 Compact, and the Xperia X1.

The reports also indicated some basic features that the handsets would sport.

In case of the Xperia XZ1, the rumors suggested that it may come with a 5.2-inch Full HD display, which will be powered by the Snapdragon 835. These earlier reports also mentioned that it would run on 4 GB of RAM, similar to what the GeekBench listing reveals.

The battery of the handset was said to be of 3,000mAh capacity.

In June another rumor surfaced which claimed that the G8341 would be running on the Android O operating system. However, this aspect seems to have changed since that time, as the recent GeekBench listing revealed it to be running on Android 7.1.1. It may indicate that the company is still pondering on which of the two platforms it should support for the handset.
