If recent leaks were trustworthy, the launch of nokia’s new smartphone would be well worth the wait. The Nokia 8 is rumored to be Hmd Global and Nokia’s true flagship Android smartphone of 2017, all set to give both Apple and Samsung a run for their money. The flagship smartphone will compete with Apple iPhone 8, samsung galaxy S8 and Microsoft Surface Phone.

Nokia announced several smartphones recently

Nokia announced three Android handsets – Nokia 3, 5 and 6 at the Mobile World Congress held recently, marking its return to the global smartphone arena.

It also launched the new Nokia 3310 – a nostalgic return of an old favorite in a new avatar. However, there was no news of the much-anticipated smartphone in the premium segment at MWC 2017. The first leak about the name Nokia 8 came from a blog that claimed that this was a smartphone that rivaled the best in the segment with a 5.7 inch QHD AMOLDED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821, 24MP rear shooter with OIS and Super EIS and a 12MP selfie camera. It also featured leaked images of the new phone.

Nokia's flagship will sport top specs

Images leaked by Chinese website CNMO and later posted on several websites and blogs show that the Nokia 8 follows the current flagship style of having curved and round-edges and a near bezel-less display.

The leak also shows that Nokia 8 has a 3.5mm headphone jack and specs like 6 inch display with a 2K resolution and 128GB of onboard storage. It is said to run on Android Nougat. Rumors in the past have suggested that upcoming Nokia phones, including the Nokia 8, will pack a dual rear camera set up with Carl Zeiss lenses. It may be recalled that HMD Global had made an announcement that it has entered into a strategic collaboration with Zeiss, with the goal to enhance the image-viewing experience for its future Nokia smartphones.

If this turns out to be true, then the Nokia 8 will be in direct competition with other flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S8, Google Pixel 2 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.

Meanwhile, the Finnish tech giant has remained tight-lipped about the launch of the new Nokia 8 and 9. With no indications whatsoever regarding the date of the launch of the Nokia 8, it remains to be seen what Nokia has up its sleeve.

And judging by the leaked material, can we see the return of the premium, affordable, and dependable smartphone? And a turnaround in the company’s fortunes? Price and release date is still not confirmed.
