New information about the powerful Intel Core I9 CPUs - 7980XE, 7960X, 7940X, and 7920X - has surfaced. This time, details about the four upcoming processors’ clock speeds as well as the timeline of their releases were identified.

Intel 7920X: 12C/24T CPU

Scheduled for release this coming August 14 is the 12-core/24-thread Intel Core i9-7920X. This chip has a base clock speed of 2.9GHz and boost speed of 4.3GHz. Priced at US$1189, this processor is the cheapest amongst the four most powerful Intel Core i9 chips and is intended to make life easier for VR and content creators.

The power of 7920X can be maxed to 4.4GHz using Turbo Boost Max 3.0 technology. This chip features a 16.5MB of L3 cache and 12MB of L2 cache for a combined total of 28.5MB cache on board. From here on, all Core i9 processors supports quad DDR4 channel memory and 44 PCIe lanes. The 7920X chip has the lowest TDP with 140W.

Intel 7940X: 14C/28T CPU

A more powerful version of the processor intended for content creators is the Intel Core i9-7940X which boasts 14-cores/28-thread processing. This chip has a base clock of 3.1GHz and boost clock of 4.3GHz. But if you are looking for more, this 7940X can reach 4.3GHz on Turbo Boost 2.0 and 4.4 GHz on Turbo Boost Max 3.0 technologies.

The 7940X has 14MB of L2 cache and 19.25MB of L3 cache for a total cache of 33.25MB.

This Intel Core i9-7940X is powered by 165W TDP and has a market price of US$1399.

Intel 7960X: 16C/32T CPU

The second-most powerful processor based on Skylake architecture, the Intel Core i9-7960X has 16-cores/32-threads processing. This is actually the beast that will face AMD’s high-end Ryzen Threadripper 1950X CPU. It is said that Intel indeed made 7960X for this specific purpose.

Priced at US$1699, this 7960X has a base clock of 2.8GHz, then it reaches 4.2GHz on Turbo Boost 2.0, and 4.4GHz on Turbo Boost Max 3.0. This processor features 16MB L2 Cache and 22MB L3 cache for a combined total cache of 38MB. TDP is locked at 165W.

Intel 7980XE: 18C/36T

The most powerful of all the beasts, this 18-cores/36-threads Intel Core i9-7980XE processor is the flagship CPU of the Skylake-X architecture.

Tagged at US$1999, this CPU is said to be the ideal go-to processor for content creators who want “maximum throughput in terms of rendering performance”, according to tech website WCCFTech while it is considered an overkill if used for gaming.

The powerful 7980XE CPU base clock is at 2.6GHz, reaching 4.2GHz on Turbo Boost 2.0, and 4.4GHz on Turbo Boost Max 3.0. It has an 18MB L2 Cache and 24.75MB L3 cache for a total cache of 42.75MB. Like 7960X and 7940X, it has a TDP of just 165W. By the way, these three most powerful Skylake processors are expected to hit the market by October.
