An earlier leak revealed that Lenovo-owned Motorola was planning to launch several smartphones, each having its own distinct features, characteristics, and targeted at a specific buyer. Among the mid-range smartphones in the company's lineup, one has been hearing quite a lot about is the Moto Z2 Play, the successor of Moto Z Play.

The press renders of the handset surfaced online at the beginning of the month, which was followed closely by another leak detailing the specifications of the smartphone. The latest leak - courtesy tipster Roland Quandt - offers a peek into the first high-quality images of the Z2 Play and also the colors the upcoming handset will be available in.

June 1 release for Moto Z2 Play?

Quandt took to Twitter to share the press renders of the Z2 Play. The images show the handset in three colors – black, gold, and silver. The gold and white variant of the smartphone flaunts a white front panel, while the black Moto Z2 Play sports a black front panel. The leaked images only showed the smartphone from the front.

Apart from Quandt’s leak, another Twitter user called Vaibhav shared an official Motorola invitation on Twitter. The content on the leaked invite is written in Latin. The invite shows that the

The invite shows that the Moto Z2 Play would be unveiled on June 1 presumably at 9:30 am.

Rumored specs

According to earlier leaks, the Z2 Play may come with a 5.5-inch Full HD display.

The mid-range Motorola smartphone is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 626 SoC and may house 4GB of RAM. Quandt also claimed that the device may come with 64GB of internal storage, along with expandable storage option via a microSD card.

In terms of camera, the Z2 Play is hinted to come with a 12MP rear camera capable of shooting videos in 4K.

The LED flash is said to be placed just below the sensors. Rumors state that the upcoming smartphone will have a 5MP selfie snapper with front flash in tow.

However, the rumored feature of the handset that has been talked about the most is the device's battery capacity. Going by the leaks and rumors, it seems that Lenovo is trying to manufacture the device as a combination of the original Moto Z and the Moto Z Play. The OEM is trying to bring forth a slimmer handset, minus flagship specs, but with an improved battery capacity.
