There have been a lot of interesting gadgets and hardware shown at the ongoing 2017 Computex event in Taipei. However, Asus managed to steal the show just recently with the unveiling of the world's first Ryzen-equipped laptop called the Asus Rog Strix GL702ZC. Aside from sporting a variety of AMD Ryzen CPUs, the laptop also marks the official debut of the Radeon RX 500-series GPUs into the laptop market.

A full AMD gaming machine

While Asus didn't outright mention this fact, the ROG Strix GL702ZC looks like it was made to showcase what AMD is able to do with laptops right now.

During the laptop's official unveiling, it was revealed that the choice to go with Ryzen chips instead of Intel's was due to the fact that Asus wanted to give users the best CPU performance for both gaming and multitasking. It was also revealed that the laptop currently holds the record for the highest CPU score in the world for a Gaming Laptop.

Main components

The brand new gaming laptop, which Asus describes as "practically a desktop," can be equipped with different Ryzen chips. The highest end model will be coming with the 8-core Ryzen 7 1700 CPU, followed by a 6-core Ryzen 5 1600 model. The lowest end model will be sporting a relatively capable quad-core Ryzen 3 1200 CPU. The physical 8-cores on the top-end Ryzen chip is definitely a big advantage when it comes to multitasking and CPU-intensive programs.

The only downside with how the processor was integrated into the system is that it is not overclockable.

The powerful processor is paired with AMD's very own Radeon RX 580 GPU. The GPU comes with 8 GB of GDDR5 memory in a 256-bit interface. The card is more than enough to run the latest video game titles in 1080p resolutions without breaking a sweat.

The laptop can also be equipped with either a 4K IPS display at 75Hz or a 1080p full HD screen at 120Hz. Both screens come with AMD's infamous FreeSync 2.0 technology, which means that stuttering and tears are not going to be an issue.

Design and other specs

Aside from the AMD components, the laptop also comes with a lot of advanced hardware including a 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD, which can be paired with either a large capacity mechanical drive or a smaller capacity solid-state drive.

The laptop also comes with a variety of ports and connectivity features that will make it the perfect companion for gamers on the go. Despite the laptop's beefy hardware, the ROG Strix GL702ZC is a relatively small laptop. The device is only 1.3-inches thick and weighs only 7 pounds. While it isn't the thinnest or lightest of laptops, it's still very portable. Asus has announced that it will reveal the device's pricing very soon and that the laptop should become available later this summer.
