Samsung’s Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, two new smartphones set to debut this month, have screens that have been rated the best ever on a smartphone, according to a research firm. The company’s top-of-the-line hardware and bezel-free design has contributed to the A+ grade awarded by DisplayMate Technologies, a company that grades screens on the latest smartphones.
Make way for the ‘best smartphone display on the market’
“The Galaxy S8 is the first in a new generation of OLED Smartphones that have a Full Screen Display design,” President Dr. Raymond M.
Soneira said. “It is the most innovative and high performance Smartphone display that we have ever lab tested, earning DisplayMate’s highest ever A+ grade.”
In its recently published report, DisplayMate listed the screen’s curved design, accurate color representation, high resolution, robust Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and support for HDR video as some of the Galaxy S8’s best features.
The phone's brightness can reach over 1,000 nits at most, and uses a DCI-P3 Color Gamut to deliver the best hues possible. Along with having the highest screen resolution, the upcoming smartphone also has the lowest reflectance and the highest contrast ratio to boot. Its HDR technology has been approved by the UHD alliance, making it possible for owners to enjoy native 4K HDR content.
The review is clearly good news for Samsung, but Apple fans also have something to look forward to. We may soon witness the same next-gen display debut on the iPhone 8. Reports have suggested that Apple placed an order for 70 million Samsung OLED panels. Should spectators rely on it, Apple’s next flagship smartphone may pack one of the best displays ever, making it all the more appealing.
