Despite having 12 picks in the 2019 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots did not select a tight end as a possible replacement for Rob Gronkowski, who recently announced his retirement after a nine-year NFL career. However, the Patriots signed 10 players from the undrafted free agent pool, including tight end Andrew Beck out of Texas. Aside from Beck, the Patriots signed safety Malik Gant, linebacker Terez Hall, wide receivers Ryan Davis and Jakobi Meyers, guard Tyler Gauthier, running back Nick Brossette, offensive tackles Calvin Anderson and Tyree St.

Louis, and cornerback D’Angelo Ross.

Patriots invested heavily in Beck

Among the 10 undrafted free agents, the Patriots invested heavily on Beck, who received a guaranteed $115,000 from the team. The amount was the largest guaranteed money spent by the Patriots on an undrafted free agent since giving linebacker Harvey Langi the same amount two years ago. That year, Langi made the Patriots’ 53-man roster. If Beck follows the same path as Langi and makes the 53-man roster, he will receive a salary of $495,000. According to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, with the way the Patriots invested in Beck, it would be possible that the tight end could make it to the 53-man roster.

Beck missed the entire 2017 season due to a fractured foot, but he was selected as team captain and a first-team All-Big 12 selection. In his four years with the Longhorns, Beck caught 40 passes for 440 yards and four touchdowns. He was not invited to the NFL scouting combine, but he was impressive in his Pro Day, tallying 4.63 seconds in the 40-yard dash and 23 reps on the bench press. The Patriots currently have Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Matt LaCosse, Stephen Anderson, Ryan Izzo, and Beck as tight ends.

Brady pockets $100K from bet with Amendola

Patriots veteran quarterback Tom Brady reunited with some of his current and past teammates during the Kentucky Derby over the weekend. He was spotted mingling with some of his former backups, including Jimmy Garoppolo of the San Francisco 49ers and Jacoby Brissett of the Indianapolis Colts.

Brady was also seen with Cleveland Browns starting quarterback Baker Mayfield. While Brady lost his bet after the horse of his choice (Code of Honor) finished second in a controversial finish, he recouped some of his losses after he won a bet with former teammate, wide receiver Danny Amendola of the Detroit Lions.

In a video posted by Amendola on his Instagram account, he and Brady agreed on a $100,000 bet that the wide receiver could hit a sign near the top of a building with a mini football. However, Amendola missed, giving Brady some extra cash when he heads home to his family. Amendola recently signed a one-year deal with the Lions worth $4.25 million, so he has no problem paying Brady.
