Nebraska football didn't have a particularly great weekend when it came to the 2019 NFL Draft. That doesn't mean that it's all bad news, for some now-former Huskers.
The minute the draft ended, players were available to sign with the NFL team of their choice. While only Stanley Morgan and Devine Ozigbo were considered realistic possible draft choices, there are several other players that have finished their days in Lincoln that are going to try and make it on the next level.
One former Nebraska football star playing for another
The draft hadn't been over for half an hour before Stanley Morgan was able to find himself a new team.
Interestingly enough, he'll now get the chance to try and make a team coached by another former Cornhusker.
Morgan has signed a UDFA deal with the Cincinnati Bengals. Their new head coach Zac Taylor was once a gun-slinging signal caller for Bill Callahan, during the years when it felt as though the Huskers were about on their way back.
It's unlikely that the pair's connections to Nebraska is going to earn him a roster spot, but it can't hurt that he'll have a very special connection with his new head coach. It also can't hurt that the Bengals did not draft a single wide receiver. If they are going to reload with new talent, the Nebraska football star could be that talent.
Ozigbo down on the bayou
Right about the same time that it was being announced Stanley Morgan had found a new home, former Husker running back Devine Ozigbo was doing the same. The man, who had a resurgent 2018 season will be attempting to make the roster of the New Orleans Saints. Like the Bengals, the Saints did not draft a running back, so it's possible Ozigbo could fill a hole.
Other Nebraska Cornhuskers get their shot
Several other Huskers have either been signed to deals or are getting a tryout with an NFL team. Center Cole Conrad is going to be reporting in the very near future with the Minnesota Vikings. Offensive lineman Jerald Foster is going to be getting his shot with the New York Giants. Another lineman, Tanner Farmer hasn't found a new team yet, but he will get a tryout with either the Houston Texans or the Indianapolis Colts.
Defensive back Aaron Williams apparently had several teams come calling. The former Nebraska star ended up picking the Arizona Cardinals. That's a team has generated quite a bit of buzz thanks to their first-round pick of Kyler Murray.
Another former Cornhusker defender who will get his shot at the NFL is Dedrick Young. He also had other offers but chose the Browns because he says he likes what he saw from them. Finally, Luke Gifford, who impressed people during the Nebraska football pro day has signed a UDFA deal with the Dallas Cowboys.
