The Sweet 16 schedule is set! After a wild weekend of March Madness action, we now know which teams have made it to the land of 16. To no one’s surprise, all four No. 1 seeds advanced to the Sweet 16 round, but one of them made it by the skin of their teeth.
Lucky bounce saves Duke
Johnny Dawkins was once a legend at Duke. Now he is the head coach at UCF. Yesterday his son, Aubrey Dawkins, had a chance to send the Blue Devils packing, however, fate was not on his side.
CBS Sports indicates Dawkins' last-second shot rolled around the rim and fell out as time expired, leaving UCF one point short of advancing to the round of 16.
Dawkins finished with 32 points for the Knights, but his tip-in try that just missed will sting for a while.
No Cinderella in 2019
Everyone loves the Cinderella teams. You know, that one or two teams that no one picked on their bracket that somehow is left standing all the way to the Elite Eight round?
This year that team doesn’t exist. The highest seed heading into the Sweet 16 is Oregon. Truthfully, this team is much better than a No. 12 and many experts had them in the Sweet 16. No sir, this year is all about the favorite. All the No. 1 seeds are still alive, and so are three No. 2’s.
If the Ducks upset Virginia this year in their Sweet 16 matchup, they will become the closest thing to the Cinderella role.
But it is hard to tab a team that won the Pac-12 Tournament as a sleeper.
