The Detroit Lions rumors are starting to heat up following today’s announcement (March 11) that they have signed former Rams and Patriots star wideout Danny Amendola. The signing took many Lions fans by surprise. Amendola had great success as a member of the St. Louis Rams and recently with the New England Patriots. However, last season wasn’t so great with the Miami Dolphins.

Nevertheless, this is a great pick up for Detroit. They need an experienced slot receiver to go along with rising star Kenny Golladay. Signing the 33-year-old to a one-year deal was a great move not only on the field but for the Lions locker room.

Amendola has a great reputation for being a positive influence and leader on and off the field. Devin White also wants to play in Detroit.

If the Lions rumor mill is correct, Amendola is far from the last signing the team plans on making this week.

Next up?

For the first time in many seasons, the Detroit Lions are being linked to big named free agents. So far, three names that won't go away are Anthony Barr, Trey Flowers, and CJ Mosley. 247 Sports indicates that the Lions will definitely be "in the mix" for defensive end Trey Flowers and linebacker Anthony Barr.

Let's be realistic here. If the Lions signed both Barr and Flowers, on paper at least, this defense could be scary good.

Flowers has become one of the better defensive ends in the game over the past two seasons and Anthony Barr is a flat out aggressive beast. After playing against the Minnesota Vikings for years, Lions offensive players know what a pain Barr can be.

Click on Detroit reports (via The Athletic) that the Lions are the No. 1 team on Barr's list to listen to during free-agency. He knows the NFC North well and adding him to a quickly improving defense would be a feather in Matt Patricia's cap. Last but far from least - there is CJ Mosley. This guy is in high demand as well, and it seems like the Lions are on a short list of possible contenders to sign the former Crimson Tide star.

The 26-year-old Mosley has spent his entire five-year career with the Baltimore Ravens, but it looks like his playing days in Baltimore are coming to an end.

In a tweet from earlier on Monday morning, it was stated that the Lions, along with the Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, and Washington Redskins are serious about making a move to sign Mosley. The Ravens don't seem to have a realistic chance since Mosley has chosen to pursue free agency, but in the NFL, you can never say never.

NFL free agency officially opens Wednesday, March 13, so get ready fans, it is going to be an interesting week.
