With just two days remaining before Super Bowl 53 arrives, fans across the US are gearing up to cheer for either the New England Patriots or Los Angeles Rams. No matter which team you are rooting for, celebrating the big game with family and friends has become a huge tradition on Super Sunday.
If you are one of those people who doesn’t care who wins the game but just likes to get together to indulge in pizza, burgers, or snacks, and root for the best commercial, it is still a fun event.
For others, predicting the winner of this one game is all about making money!
Super Bowl millions
Every year sportsbooks take in millions of dollars in wagers. This year will be no different. In fact, with two evenly matched teams like the Patriots and Rams, some Vegas casinos are expected to take in a record amount between Super Bowl prop bets and wagering on which team will win.
Don’t fool yourself - Brady, Goff are key
Both the Patriots and Rams are playing their best football of the year, so what will be the difference on Super Sunday? The quarterbacks. Yes, the defense and special teams matter, and so does that all-important kicking team, but let's be honest here – the squad most likely to win Super Bowl 53 will do so because of Tom Brady or Jared Goff.
Throw the stats out the window.
Don’t talk about the age difference or the experience vs. the lack of - it is one single game of NFL football and the quarterback who plays better will more than likely lead his team to the title.
Odds and picks
The Los Angeles Rams opened up as 1.5 point favorites to win Super Bowl 53. That all changed in less than 24 hours when hundreds of thousands of dollars came rushing in on New England.
CBS Sports indicates that the Patriots are currently 2.5 point favorites and the over/under point total 56.5.
The Patriots lost last year’s Super Bowl despite Tom Brady throwing for 505 yards and three touchdowns. This year will be different. Why? A healthy Julian Edelman (he didn't play in last year's Super Bowl against the Philadelphia Eagles), a strong running game led by James White, and rookie Sony Michel and a huge chip on their shoulders.
The Rams are a great team with tons of talent, but in the end, New England wins by a touchdown or more.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy heads back to Massachusetts.
Pick – New England -2.5
Bonus prop bet – Under 28.5 first half
Super Bowl 53 will take place in Atlanta, Georgia on February 3. Kick off tie is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET.
