The Nebraska football program is pretty set at the quarterback position for the next few years. Because this is college football, the Huskers are only set at quarterback for the next few years with Adrian Martinez. There will come a time in the not too distant future when Scott Frost and company are going to hand over the reins to someone else. When it comes to the 2021 recruiting class, the Huskers have sent signals they hoped that "someone else" was going to be Jake Garcia.
Nebraska football legacy target slipping away?
Garcia is another legacy target for Scott Frost and his coaching staff.
Jake's dad played for the Huskers back in the 1970s as ... a quarterback. When the Cornhuskers made the offer of a scholarship last spring, the Narbonne signal caller made it clear that the offer was a special one because it was his father's alma mater.
My Dad’s alma mater so this one means a lot!!! Extremely blessed to receive an offer from The University of Nebraska #GoBigRed🌽 @CoachWalters1 @GregBiggins @adamgorney @_dannyh131 @TheMatt_V @bonnefootball @premiumsportsla @RyanWrightRNG @Rivals pic.twitter.com/cNNwFaYxAo

Because the quarterback has a great arm and put up sparkling numbers, he quickly looked like one of the top targets for Nebraska outside of the 2019 class.
Even if Frost had to wait several years for Jake Garcia to get on campus, it seemed like they were going to throw the kitchen sink at the prospect. Then things between the talented recruit and the Cornhuskers got awfully quiet.
Things got rather quiet despite the fact that Garcia is considered a 4-star prospect by 247Sports.
He's also, at the moment considered the number four player in the state of California and the 54th best player in the entire 2021 class. It's possible one of the reasons the Huskers allowed the relationship to quieten down is because of Garcia's style of play.
Jake Garcia's pro-style play a problem?
While the Narbonne prospect is a college quarterback of the future, the Nebraska football team showed in 2018 what the future of the Huskers is at quarterback.
Garcia isn't a statue in the pocket, but he is a pro-style quarterback. Of course, he's the class of 2021's third-ranked pro-style quarterback.
Truly blessed to receive an offer from The Ohio State University🅾️ #GoBucks pic.twitter.com/m33IoGL6hc

Ohio State and Tennessee are some of the latest teams to make Garcia a scholarship offer. If the Buckeyes especially are interested in getting him to Columbus, it seems like the Huskers should still be looking hard at a pro-style quarterback. There is a difference in the style of QB OSU wants these days. While Urban Meyer's offense had been using mobile quarterbacks, Dwayne Haskins isn't all that mobile at all.
He had one of the best seasons ever for the Buckeyes.
It's possible that the Nebraska football team could start to get after Jake Garcia now that they're getting closer to knowing what the 2019 class is going to look like. If they do start the pursuit again, he might find it's hard to turn away from a fanbase with the reputation of Husker fans.
