Nebraska football target Vic Viramontes is getting more FBS attention all the time. The most interesting part of that fact is that the attention seems to be ramping up because, at least in part, the Huskers showed the linebacker attention. Since he got an official offer from Scott Frost and company, the Riverside C.C. player has managed to boost his official offer list to nine teams. The most recent offer came from Mountain West team Colorado State. That offer could muddy the waters a bit more when it comes to reeling in the prospect.

Vic Viramontes seeing offers climb closer to signing day

The Riverside C.C. linebacker seems to be getting more offers every day. If the Huskers' offer wasn't the catalyst, it could be that his junior college continues to rack up wins. The squad will be playing yet another playoff game on Saturday, November 24 in the quarterfinal round for his college's division. Riverside has yet to lose a game this season. They'll look to keep that going on Saturday. While the team has been winning thanks in large part to an explosive offense, a defense manned by Viramontes and another Nebraska football target Nick Figueroa has contributed to the victories as well.

In addition to the Cornhuskers and Colorado State, Boise State, Illinois, Louisville, Missouri, Ole Miss, SMU and TCU have all come calling. Some of those teams have offered both Viramontes and Figueroa. The Huskers are one of those teams. The question is whether or not the two players are planning on trying to go to the same school.

It's unclear if there has been any kind of talk like that. Both players are good enough that the Nebraska football team would clearly take both if it worked out that way.

Nebraska football looking to overhaul a bad defense

The number of JUCO offers, especially on the defensive side of the ball isn't a coincidence. Defensive coordinator Erik Chinander has his work cut out for him.

That was quite clear on Friday when the Cornhuskers couldn't stop an Iowa rushing attack that has spent most of the year being very mediocre. The Hawkeyes came into the game with the number 86th ranked offense. They have the 80th ranked rushing attack. They ran for over 260 yards against the Nebraska football team. Signing players like Vic Viramontes are geared towards revamping the defense. While it's feeling like Figueroa is going to be playing for UCLA, his linebacker teammate appears to still be wide open to coming to Lincoln.
