On Friday (June 22), the BIG3 Basketball league began its second season in existence. Opening day for the 2018 BIG3 slate arrived from Houston's Toyota Center. There were plenty of former NBA stars in action for the opening games including former All-Star guard Baron Davis who put on a show for his team. LeBron James' former Cavs teammates Carlos Boozer and Ricky Davis were also on hand. In addition, former NBA star Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf came up clutch at the young age of 49.

3's Company routs Killer 3s behind Davis

Baron Davis was a member of several squads in the NBA including the Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Charlotte Hornets.

He's a two-time NBA All-Star as well. Now, at age 39, he's competing in the BIG3 League and still getting it done. On Friday night, he helped 3's Company win 51-30 over the Killer 3s.

Bleacher Report relayed the news that Davis hit two four-point shots during the game. He ended up scoring 17 points to go with nine rebounds. The 3's Company team held a 19-point advantage at the half in the game and went on to keep that up through the second half for an easy victory.

For the losing team, several former NBA stars had decent outings. Former Indiana Pacers Metta World Peace and Stephen Jackson had 22 points and 13 rebounds for the Killer 3s, accounting for all but eight of the team's total points.

3 Headed Monsters win on Abdul-Rauf's shot

Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf was formerly known as Chris Jackson when he entered the league. He began his career as a member of the Denver Nuggets. He was praised early on and while he had a 21-year career, never quite reached All-Star status. He only played for three teams while in the NBA before he decided to go overseas and play with Italy, Russia, and other leagues.

Abdul-Rauf, now 49-years-old, was the star of the game for the 3 Headed Monsters on Friday night. In their opener, Abdul-Rauf hit the game-winning shot to help his team grab a 50-48 win. His teammate Reggie Evans had a poor showing at the free throw line and that allowed the Ghost Ballers to stay close. Evans still finished with a double-double as he tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Carlos Boozer made his BIG3 debut for the Ghost Ballers with 15 points and seven boards. His teammate Mike Bibby didn't contribute any points but provided three assists and grabbed four rebounds in the losing effort. Former NBA star Ricky Davis led the team with 21 points as he nailed three of the league's special four-point shots in the game.

Those were just four of the teams in action for Friday's opening night schedule of the BIG3 League. The other four teams were also slated for games as the league embarked on its second season and a United States tour over the summer.
