The updated 2018 World Series odds have seen many teams that weren’t on the radar in Spring Training make some serious noise, while a few early favorites have the look of a fireworks display that is starting to fizzle out too early!
Yankees flexing muscle
Many MLB experts believed that the New York Yankees would be good in 2018, however, right now, they are literally on fire.
According to an MLB.com report, heading into their matchup Wednesday night against the Boston Red Sox, the Bombers have won 17 out of their past 18 contests. Ironically, that is a better stretch than the Red Sox put together when they started the season 17-2.
That streak has the attention of Vegas sportsbooks, as it should.
The Yankees' lineup has lived up to its billing so far early on in 2018, and if they stay healthy, you can pencil them into a playoff spot right now. They have the look of a team that is determined to get back to the ALCS and complete the job.
Break up the Braves and Phillies?
Online sports giant Bovada may still have the Houston Astros as the World Series favorites at 5/1 odds or +500, however, more action has been pouring in of late on the New York Yankees (+650), Arizona Diamondbacks (+1000) and Los Angeles Angels (+1200).
While all of those teams are playing great, two teams not on most MLB experts’ radar, the Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies, are making some serious noise heading into mid-May.
Oddsshark indicates that the biggest jump on the Las Vegas odds board belongs to the surprising Atlanta Braves. Atlanta, who were listed at +10000 in April, have since improved to +1800. That is a huge jump! If you have a ticket at +10000, hold it tight. It could be worth a lot this October. Hey, you never know!
With an offense led by Freddie Freeman, Nick Markakis, Ozzie Alnies and Ender Inciarte, these kids may just shake up the status quo when it comes to an underdog making their way to the postseason.
The other team raising eyebrows is the Philadelphia Phillies. Once set at +7500, the Phillies are now listed at +3000. Just like Atlanta, the Phillies are putting the National League on full alert. They are better than advertised and will be a pain for many teams this season.
Teams going in the wrong direction since Opening Day include the New York Mets (+800 to +2200), LA Dodgers (+800 to +1400) and Cleveland Indians (+1100 to +1400).
The longest shot on the board belongs to the Baltimore Orioles, Kansas City Royals, Cincinnati Reds and Miami Marlins. All four teams are listed at +75000.
