The 35-man roster is out for all teams going to the FIFA World Cup and there are no surprises on Uruguay's roster. Uruguay hosted the first-ever World Cup and was victorious. They have won one other World Cup in the past and have their sights set on a good performance in Russia this summer. This is the 12th time that Uruguay will be participating in the FIFA World Cup and they will face Egypt, Russia, and Saudi Arabia in the group stages.

Defense

Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera will start in goal for the national team. The veteran has been the first choice for the qualifiers and he looks like the likely pick for the goalie. Guillermo Varela and Diego Laxalt will start in the full-back positions for most matches. Diego Godin will wear the armband and captain the side from the center back position and will be paired up with Atletico Madrid teammate Jose Maria Gimenez. Uruguay has a solid back line and also have available options in the form of Martin Caceres, Maxi Pereira, and Sebastian Coates.

Midfield

Uruguay does not have a very promising midfield when compared to some of the other teams set to participate in the World Cup.

In central midfield positions, InterMilan's Matias Vecino and Juventus's young talent Rodrigo Bentacur are obvious picks as they have proven themselves for their respective clubs. On the two wings, we can expect to see Nahitan Nandez and Gaston Ramirez start. Uruguay has some other options off the bench as well in midfield including Cristian Rodriguez, Diego Rolan, Carlos Sanchez and Lucas Torreira.

Attack

Uruguay should have no problems up top because they arguably have the best pair of strikers in the world. FC Barcelona's Luis Suarez and PSG's Edinson Cavani are considered two of the most elegant and destructive strikers in the game currently. These two players will carry a lot of pressure as they would be expected to deliver on the big stage, just like they have been doing for their clubs this entire season.

Both of them could be competing against each other for the Golden Boot if Uruguay has a good World Cup. Maximiliano Gomes might come off the bench for some matches but only when their main men are fatigued or injured.

Expected lineup

Uruguay would be expected to play a 4-4-2 formation if everyone is fit for the World Cup, but this formation could change depending on the form of the midfielders. The expected starting XI would be Fernando Muslera, Guillermo Varela, Diego Godin, Jose Maria Gimenez, Diego Laxalt, Matias Vecino, Rodrigo Bentacur, Nahitan Nandez, Gaston Ramirez, Edinson Cavani, and Luis Suarez. Uruguay is in Group A, along with Saudi Arabia, Russia, and Egypt, and will look to win the group with the stars that they have in order to set themselves up perfectly for the knockout rounds.
