The Los Angeles Lakers are playing a lot better this season than they did in the past few years. Despite this, the team continues to be a favorite in NBA rumors. Veteran point guard isaiah thomas is among the main reasons why.

Thomas' present contract will expire this summer, which means he is going to be an unrestricted free agent. At the moment, it is unknown if the Lakers have plans of re-signing him since their goal is to land superstars in free agency. Due to his uncertain future, numerous NBA rumors linking him to several squads emerged. One of them suggested him heading back to the Eastern Conference.

Returning to the East?

In Isaiah Thomas' professional career, he has experienced the most success when playing for an Eastern Conference squad, particularly the Boston Celtics. Before his stint with the 17-time NBA champions, Thomas suited up for the Sacramento Kings and the Phoenix Suns. With these organizations, he showed flashes of greatness and tremendous potential. But it was in Boston where he truly thrived. Sadly, the C's traded him ahead of this season to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and everything went downhill from there. Right now, with the Lakers, the 29-year-old is trying to re-establish himself as one of the best players in the league.

However, as I mentioned earlier, it is possible that Thomas' stay with the Lakers will be short-lived.

If this happens, he may want to think about returning to the East and continuing to resurrect his career in that conference. A team that should consider signing him according to Hoops Habit is the Indiana Pacers.

The Pacers continue to surprise this season because of the way they are performing in the post-Paul George era. Indiana is currently third in the Eastern Conference with its 40-29 record.

But, there is still something missing for the Pacers to reach the next level and become legitimate contenders. Thomas can help them with that, team him up with rising star Victor Oladipo and the Pacers have a talented backcourt tandem that has the potential to carry the franchise to the championship pedestal. It would be interesting how that will work, but for now, Thomas to Indiana is just one of many NBA rumors and possibilities being brought up with the regular season nearing its end.

IT fails Lakers

In other Isaiah Thomas news, the former Washington standout caused the Los Angeles Lakers a loss on March 16. The Lakers hosted the Miami Heat last Friday and put up a good fight. With less than eight seconds on the game clock, the purple and gold had possession down by one, 92-91. Thomas received the ball and went for a game-winning shot that fell short.

Thomas and the Lakers have now lost back-to-back after winning two games consecutively. They are 11th in the Western Conference with a 31-38 record.
