Real Madrid played one of their most memorable seasons last year. They won four of the five tournaments they were in. They claimed 2016-17 Uefa Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, La Liga, and had reached the quarterfinals of the Copa Del Rey.

Overall, 2016-17 season was one their most successful seasons. The same season was the first season of their manager Zinedine Zidane. He helped Real Madrid in winning the major trophies last year.

However, the story of the contemporary season is not what anyone had expected from Real Madrid after winning the UEFA Champions League and La Liga in the same season.

This season Zidane and Co. are suffering severely and nobody has a clue why it is happening.

Real Madrid is currently in the fourth spot of the La Liga with 34 points. They have lost four games and played five draws already this season. Winning the 2017-18 La Liga is almost a far cry for them as their fierce rivals, Barcelona, is on the top with 54 points.

This season is proving to be a banana skin for the defending champions of the Champions League and La Liga. Lately, their season looked like it was going from bad to worse after they lost to Legenes in the Copa Del Rey. They are now eliminated from the tournament on the away goals on aggregate after a 2-2 draw in the second-leg match.

Even worse, Real Madrid will play against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in the coming days.

PSG is one of the contenders of the Champions League this season. Elimination against PSG will only add to Zinedine Zidane’s pressing problems. Sadly, Zidane’s success at Bernabeu looks to be only a flash in the pan so far.

Should Zidane give up?

Last season, Barcelona’s former manager, Luis Enrique himself, announced his departure from the club after he was lambasted for a poor season.

After that public announcement by himself, he left the club at the end of the season.

Zidane is a manager of the same mindset. He could do the same and leave the manager’s seat voluntarily if he thinks enough is enough now.

However, Real Madrid fans believe that problem lies in the players. The prominent players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Benzema are struggling with consistency this season.

The right time to leave?

Although many fans have now been fed up with this performance of Real Madrid, few still think that Zidane’s and Madrid’s synergy can do better in the rest of the season. The fans can now only expect the team to win the Champions League as the hopes of winning La Liga are almost gone.

Real Madrid’s board should wait till the Paris Saint-Germain game in the Champions League, as that fixture will tell how the team will perform in the rest of the Champions League matches. The fixture against PSG will be the toughest game of the season for Real Madrid and, of course, the biggest test for their manager, Zinedine Zidane.
