Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors are picking up again. Fresh off the L.A. Clippers trading Blake Griffin to the Detroit Pistons, there are NBA trade rumors about DeAndre Jordan changing teams. A report by the Los Angeles Times inferred that Jordan could be the next big-name player to leave the Clippers this season.

After losing All-Star point guard Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets, the L.A. Clippers have been on a downward spiral. The on-court struggles led to the team parting ways with Blake Griffin, paving the way for a full rebuilding effort.

This is where the Cleveland Cavaliers enter the picture, as the team would really like to land DeAndre Jordan.

How do Cavs get Jordan?

In order for the Cleveland Cavaliers to land DeAndre Jordan, the team may have to give up the 2018 first-round pick of the Brooklyn Nets. It is a very valuable asset for the franchise, but possibly too valuable to give up in the chase for another title. Without giving up that pick and an additional pick, the Cavs might not be able to pry Jordan away from the Clippers.

Why would the Cavs keep the Brooklyn pick?

LeBron James is a free agent at the end of the current NBA season. It’s quite possible that he plans to leave the Cleveland Cavaliers. There have been various NBA rumors linking him to the Los Angeles Lakers, even if the team looks like a complete mess (again) this season.

If James bolts, the Cavs want to make sure that they have assets to still compete. The Brooklyn pick might be one of those assets. Having a high selection in the 2018 NBA Draft might help soften the blow that comes with losing one of the best players in the league.

The return of Isaiah Thomas hasn’t gone according to plan. Neither have the pep talks by LeBron James.

The Cavs are currently the third-best team in the Eastern Conference and way behind the Boston Celtics in the latest standings. To catch the Celtics may now be impossible, but the playoffs are an entirely different story. Getting a player like Jordan and teaming him up with James, Kevin Love, and Isaiah Thomas might just be enough to put the Cavs over the bump.

They would match up better with the Golden State Warriors as well.

There are certainly going to be a lot of additional Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors as the NBA trade deadline approaches, but when will the Cavs finally put the trigger on a move? Fans and analysts around the league are watching closely, as what takes place between now and the trade deadline could also dictate the future of the franchise.
