Fireworks went off at Oracle Arena as the Wizards came into town to face the Warriors. Washington came out hot from three-point range and led by seven points after the first quarter. But while the Wizards continued knocking down shots, frustration boiled over toward the end of the second quarter when Bradley Beal attacked Draymond Green. Green, known for not backing down, went right back at him, and the fight spilled into the front row of the stands behind the basket.

Green came out of the melee with his jersey torn in half. Both he and Beal were tossed from the game, and the Wizards upped their lead to 14 points at halftime. The two teams played each other even for most of the third quarter, but five quick points by Steph Curry in the final seconds of the frame cut the lead to 10. Kevin Durant took over the fourth, helping the Warriors get the lead and ultimately seek out a three-point win.

Warriors Game MVP

Kevin Durant was a monster. His 31 points, 11 rebounds, and six assists were the difference. Durant had 10 fourth-quarter points and hit two big three-point shots to not only get the Warriors back in the game but ultimately finish off the Wizards.

Rest of the Warriors' starters

Steph Curry struggled with his shot from behind the arc, shooting 3-13. But he attacked the basket all game and finished with 20 points and dished out eight assists. Klay Thompson had his hands full on the defensive end most of the night, often matched up against John Wall. But he also scored 18 points on 8-19 shooting. Before Green got ejected, he had three points and six assists in 17 minutes. ZaZa Pachulia chipped in four points and nine rebounds.

The Warriors' bench

With Green out, the bench played a major role in getting the Warriors back into the game. Contributions were made across the board, but Kevin Looney especially played well (nine points/five rebounds).

His ability to run the floor and finish was paramount during some key fourth-quarter runs. Veteran David West couldn't miss (except for once). His 16 points on 8-9 shooting more than made up Green's absence on the offensive end (scoring-wise at least). Omar Caspri also finally made his mark as a Warrior. The off-season acquisition had eight points in 13 minutes.

Final thoughts

For 36 minutes, the Wizards showed why they have the top-tier talent to compete with anyone. Even when they gave up the lead in the fourth, they showed some fight. And if they would have played with this type of intensity against the Lakers on Wednesday night, they would have blown them out. But the Wizards, to their own detriment, seem to play up or down depending on their level of competition.

That kind of effort is going to get them another flame out in the first or second round of playoffs. The Wizards want to be taken seriously, but they haven't proved to anyone that they take winning seriously.
