The latest installment of the "Red River Showdown" featured the No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners attempting to bounce back from last week's first loss of the season. The 3-2 Texas Longhorns were looking to hand the visitors a second-straight loss and further crush any hopes of a College Football Playoff appearance this season. However, Baker Mayfield and the Sooners managed to escape with a 29-24 point win for their fifth victory of the season. Here's the Sooners vs. Longhorns recap, including top players, game stats, a standings update, and what's next on the NCAA football schedule.

NCAA game recap

In today's game, the Oklahoma Sooners opened with a 10-0 lead in the first quarter. The first touchdown came courtesy of a 54-yard Baker Mayfield pass to Jeff Badet for the score. Later in the first, Austin Seibert's field goal boosted the Sooners' lead. The Texas Longhorns had 10 points of their own in the second quarter, seven of which came via a Kyle Porter 16-yard pass from Sam Ehlinger. However, the Sooners also added 10 on the scoreboard. A touchdown came via Rodney's Anderson's 15-yard run. At halftime, it was a 20-10 lead in favor of the visitors.

The second half featured a 7-3 quarter from the Longhorns. The team got close enough to the end zone for a one-yard run from Chris Warren III for the touchdown.

Another Seibert field goal came to keep Oklahoma up 23-17. However, Texas would take the lead with eight minutes to go in the game thanks to their QB. Ehlinger ran eight yards for the score making it 24-23. Mayfield wasn't done though as he found Mark Andrews for a 59-yard touchdown pass play that put the Sooners up 29-24. They would fail on a two-point conversion but managed to keep Texas from scoring for the remainder of the game.

Baker Mayfield would finish today's game with 302 yards and two touchdowns on 17-of-27 passing for the Sooners. Running back Trey Sermon had 20 carries for 96 yards while Rodney Anderson had 10 carries for 48 yards and the only rushing TD. Receiver Mark Andrews racked up 104 yards and a touchdown.
