The latest 2017 Ap Top 25 poll has arrived and somebody break up the Irish! The Fighting Irish, who were unranked at the beginning of the season, have jumped up from No. 13 to No. 9 in the latest rankings. Irish coach Brian Kelly was rumored to be on the hot seat heading into this season. So far, his team has responded well to all the rumors and pressure by becoming one of the best squads in the country.

Irish dominate USC

Whether you are a fan of Notre Dame football or not, one thing you cannot argue is the toughness of their schedule. If somehow Notre Dame runs the table from here on out, there is no way that they can't be considered one of the top four teams in the land.

At 6-1 on the season and coming off a 49-14 thrashing of previously No. 11 ranked USC, Notre Dame has established itself as a real threat to make a push for the college football Playoffs this December. The only loss the Irish suffered was a one-point defeat to No. 3 ranked Georgia.

Add to that, the Irish still have to face No. 14 NC State, No. 8 Miami, No. 20 Stanford and a very good Navy team. Wins against NC State and the Hurricanes alone may be enough to thrust the Irish into serious consideration amongst the playoff contenders. Notre Dame is a perfect example of how football experts never really know how things will turn out. In August most experts would have laughed at the thought of Notre Dame contending for a playoff spot.

They aren't anymore.

Michigan Wolverines out of Top 25

In a year that started so promising for the Michigan Wolverines, they are now on the outside looking in when it comes to the Top 25 teams in the land. Michigan has not been the same since quarterback Wilton Speight was injured against Purdue back on September 23. Even though the Wolverines held on for the win, they have lost two of the last three games and the offense has been stagnant at best.

While there will be no playoff run for Michigan, they could still make a December 31 or January 1st bowl game if they can string together some wins.
