The New York Yankees have been in this position before, but the question is, can they pull off another series comeback after trailing 0-2? The good news for New York is that they are heading back home. The bad news, however, is that they pitched great in the first two games of the American League Championship Series and still have come up short against the Houston Astros.
Pitching dominates first two games of ALCS
For two teams that are known for their big bats, the new york yankees and Houston Astros have been at a premium when it comes to scoring runs so far in the 2017 ALCS.
ESPN indicates that the Astros were the best hitting team in all of MLB baseball in the regular season. Right behind them were the New York Yankees.
If you asked many experts the chances of New York winning the first two games of the series if they held the Astros to two runs per contest, they would say the Yankees most likely would win both contests. Unfortunately for the Bombers, they were on the short end of both Game 1 and Game 2 by the final scores of 2-1 in each contest. Pitching has dominated thus far for both teams, but it would just seem a matter of time before these heavy hitting teams bust loose.
Can CC Sabathia right the ship?
When the Yankees return to the Bronx they will hand the ball to the veteran left-hander CC Sabathia.
Not only has Sabathia been much better than expected this season, but so have the Yankees at home. This is why the New York faithful should believe they still have a chance to win this series.
The Yankees finish the 2017 regular season with a 51-30 record at home They also outscored their opponents in the Bronx by a margin of +106 runs - the best in the MLB.
Here is one more reason to hold on to hope if you are a Yankees fan
New York is 3-0 at home in the postseason, as compared to a 1-4 mark on the road. Their lone road win was a huge one - the clinching Game 5 victory at Cleveland in the ALDS. The Yankees will have home cooking for the next three games in this best-of-seven series.
For New York, winning two of the next three at Yankee Stadium is the bare minimum required to send the series back to Houston.
How to watch Game 3 live, prediction
Las Vegas oddsmakers have the Yankees listed as the favorites at -125 with the over/under run total set at 8. Monday’s Houston Astros vs New York Yankees Game 3 will air nationally on Fox Sports 1 (FS1) starting at 8 p.m. ET. The game will also be available via live stream through the FOX Sports Go app.
Who will win Game 3? You can obviously make a case for either side, however, the Yankees are just overdue. The home crowd, along with Aaron Judge and Gary Sanchez in major slumps, I think they will come around at home and cut the series to 2-1.
