The New York Yankees were able to get on the scoreboard early in tonight's game for the lead. After a 1-0 start by Tampa Bay off a home run from Corey Dickerson, New York put up two runs, both of which were home runs.
Brett Gardner and Aaron Judge each hit solo shots to right field. The Yankees would add several more runs, behind a Todd Frazier single in the second and a Greg Bird home run in the fourth.
However, the Tampa Bay Rays would explode for seven runs in the fifth inning. It began when a wild pitch from Sonny Gray allowed Smith to score. New York changed pitchers but it wouldn't matter as Cesar Puello singled to center to score Adeiny Hechavarria. Peter Bourjos hit a huge triple to score Daniel Robertson and Puello for two more runs. By then it was an 8-4 lead for the Rays.
