Week 2 of the NCAA football season is upon us and one of the biggest games on the schedule this Saturday will feature the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes hosting the No. 5 ranked Oklahoma Sooners. Talk about a regular season game having a playoff-type feel to it in September!
Winner will have early inside playoff track
Sure, it is early in the season, however, this game is huge for both OU and the Bucks - but in many ways, it is a bit bigger for the Oklahoma Sooners. OU would like to show the world that their ranking is legit and that they are once again relevant in college football.
Yes, the Sooners have posted great records over the last two seasons, but if they can defeat the Buckeyes on Saturday, they could put themselves in the driver's seat towards making the playoffs this December. A win Saturday night on the road against the second ranked Ohio State Buckeyes, can solidify that this team means business in 2017.
When these two met last year, it was all Ohio State. The Buckeyes scored 35 points in the first half and put the Sooners away early as they stunned OU in front of their hometown fans by the final score of 45-24. Ohio State gained nearly 500 yards of offense in that game in Norman. That game was played on September 17, 2016. Since then, Oklahoma hasn’t lost a contest and they would like nothing more than to win their 12th game in a row this weekend - and get a bit of revenge while doing so.
As for Ohio State, they know what is at stake. Every game the Buckeyes play is meaningful and head coach Urban Meyer knows that one loss can be the difference between making the postseason or not. That comes with the territory when your team is consistently ranked in the top 10.
