Manchester United continued their impressive play with another 4-0 win against Everton. United have already won their first two Premier League games by the same score of 4-0 against West Ham United and Swansea City.
The only difference this time was the absence of France International Paul Pogba from the playing-11. United boss Jose Mourinho signed Frenchman in 2016/17 summer transfer window for a world record fee of €110 million from Italian giants Juventus.
Pogba's first season at United was pretty much impressive, and he won UEFA Europa League and EFL Cup as major trophies with Manchester United. However, he couldn't win Premier League in his first season, but this season he and his teammates are determined to bring 21st Premier League title at Old Trafford.
Why was Pogba absent in the last game?
Unfortunately, Frenchmen was injured while playing against Basel in the Champions League group stage match. He was substituted by the Belgian midfielder Marouane Fellaini in early minutes of the game.
United's medical team reported after the game that Frenchman won't be available for the next 4-5 weeks. United have no major games to play against top 6 Premier League teams in the next 4-5 weeks.
However, they will be playing against their arch rivals Liverpool on October 14th. He's unlikely to play that game, but he could continue to play matches after that fixture.
How did United perform without star midfielder?
Man Utd's first game without the Frenchman was against Everton on September 17th in the fifth round of Premier League matches. Jose decided to replace Fellaini with injured player Pogba. Fellaini started the game in midfield with the Siberian midfielder Matic.
United fans were expecting a good result since the first spot of the Premier League table had been taken by Man City. A defeat could have left United on the 2nd spot for the first time since the start of the 2017/18 Premier League season.
But United didn't miss Pogba and his passes, Antonio Valencia scored in the fourth minute with a screamer from the outside of the 18-yard box.
Manchester United dominated the rest of the first half and score was 1-0 until 45-minutes. United looked to struggle defensively in the most of the second half. But after the 80th minute and 10 minutes remaining in the game, all hell broke loose.
United scored next three goals in the last ten minutes. The second goal came when former Everton striker Lukaku gave a thrown ball to winger Mkhitaryan in the penalty area who didn't miss the opportunity to score.
The third goal came from the former Evertonian by himself when he scored an airball coming from the corner taken by Mkhitaryan.
He scored his fifth goal for United in playing his fifth Premier League game.
Just after few minutes, Everton conceded a penalty in the stoppage time, and 85th minuted substituted player Anthony Martial scored from the penalty spot. The game ended with a 4-0 win for United and the fourth clean-sheet for Spanish goalkeeper De Gea.
Manchester Clubs (United and City) are topping the Premier League table after the fifth round of matches. Both teams have the same number of goal-difference and points.
