Week 1 of college football was nothing short of sensational. Some of the biggest storylines and takeaways came from the biggest games including games like Florida State vs. Alabama and Michigan vs. Florida.
Here are some of the biggest storylines following Week 1:
Alabama is still good
This is nothing new considering that most expected Alabama to reload on defense and find a way to win the game. Although I picked Alabama to win this game, I thought Florida State was going to win until a no-call pass interference was not called on Alabama before halftime.
Overall, Alabama's defense is still one of the best defenses in college football, and their offense still has time to improve.
The Big 10 is the best conference in college football
I know a lot of people will argue that other conferences like the SEC or ACC are the best conference in college football, but the Big 10 showed on Saturday why they are the best conference.
Ohio State started slowly versus Indiana but showed in the second half why they are ranked No. 2 in the country. Also, be on the lookout for freshman running back J.K. Dobbins who had an excellent game in substitution for Mike Webber.
Michigan lost 10 of their starters but looked sharp versus Florida in their 33-17 dominance.
Penn State posted a shutout victory versus Akron, and Saquon Barkley made a strong case for the Heisman.
Barkley rushed for 172 yards on 14 attempts and totaled 226 total yards.
We are in the era of the Big 10 and teams should be ready to play with them.
Florida still has no offense
Although Florida scored 17 points, 14 of those points came from the defense while the offense managed to score three points. The Gators still have not managed to find a good enough quarterback since Tim Tebow.
It looks to be a long season for the Gators and their offense.
Georgia may have a great quarterback?
The Bulldogs defeated Appalachian State 31-10, but the Bulldogs will be without Jacob Eason indefinitely. Most of the Bulldog nation believes the Jake Fromm era has begun and believes he is the guy to take them to the promised land.
Fromm was 10-15 for 143 yards, and one touchdown in the Bulldogs win. Moving forward, Kirby Smart will have to decide on who will start when Eason is healthy again.
Clemson may repeat as national champions?
Although Deshaun Watson is in the NFL, Clemson may have a great talent in quarterback Kelly Bryant. Bryant seems to be the guy to keeps Clemson's high potent offense going. Although it was against Kent State, Bryant and the Clemson Tigers appear to be ready to contend for another College Football Playoff bid.
Kevin Sumlin's career at Texas A&M may be done
Kevin Sumlin was one of the coaches who were on the hot seat coming into the season this year. After the 34 point meltdown versus UCLA, it puts Sumlin in a tight situation. For Sumlin to continue his coaching career at Texas A&M, he will have to win out and make it to the SEC Championship. If this is not done, Sumlin could be gone as quick as week 4 or 6.
