Dwayne Wade addressed the rumor that has been floating around for the last several months, and it will likely involve where he will play next season. Meanwhile, the Cavs took their chance to inquire about the availability of Klay Thompson of the Golden State Warriors. Heck, there’s even a possibility for the team to acquire DeMarcus Cousins out of the blue, according to a die-hard fan.
Wade, LeBron set meeting
Wade admitted during an ambushed interview with TMZ that he and LeBron James will be having a meeting this week, although he did not specify what will be its subject. The All-Star guard added that he has been keeping in touch with his former Miami Heat teammate and Banana Boat buddy through text.
“We text each other,” Wade said about James, according to TMZ Sports. “I’m gonna join him at dinner this week somewhere.”
The rumor of Wade joining LeBron in Cleveland has been swirling around for quite some time now. The former NBA Finals MVP reportedly wanted to bolt out of Chicago the moment the Bulls traded All-Star swingman Jimmy Butler to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for several young players at the NBA Draft.
Unfortunately for Wade, pulling off an exit coup won’t be that easy.
He already picked up his player’s option for the 2017-18 NBA season worth at least $23 million. The Bulls front-office is expected to postpone buyout negotiation with Wade until probably December and past the trade deadline in February.
Cavs did want Kyrie Irving-Klay Thompson blockbuster
Marc J. Spears of the Undefeated of ESPN reported that the Cavs contacted their NBA Finals arch-nemesis Warriors in an attempt to initiate trade talks centered on Kyrie Irving and Klay Thompson. Golden State immediately squashed down the proposal, prompting the Cavs to accept the Celtics’ trade offer of Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets’ first-round pick in 2018.
The Cavaliers front-office thought they could sway the Warriors to accepting the deal since Thompson will become an unrestricted free agent in 2019.
The current Collective Bargaining Agreement will make it tougher for the Warrior to keep their core four of Thompson, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Kevin Durant once one of these contracts is up.
Nick Wright’s Boogie Dream
According to NBA pundit Nick Wright, the Cavs have a shot at DeMarcus Cousins. He believes the Cavs will pull the trigger on the Cousins trade at the trade deadline, where Cleveland sends a package of Iman Shumpert, Channing Frye and the trade sweetener Brooklyn’s first-round pick to the New Orleans Pelicans for basically a half-season rental of Cousins. Then again, for this trade to ever happen, the Pelicans must have a losing season halfway into the season.
