The day two of the Wimbledon Championships has concluded without rain, and there were a lot of exciting matches. The top seeds didn't spend a lot of time on the court, a few players retired, and one match is suspended because of the darkness.
Isner wins an American clash, while Tiafoe provides a huge victory
Bernard Tomic lost to Mischa Zverev in straight sets after just one hour and 26 minutes of play.
Tomic didn't make much effort in the match, and he looked like he had no intention to win.
After the match, Tomic said: "I wasn't mentally and physically there, and I don't know why, but I felt a little bit bored on the court, honestly. I tried something at the end, but it was too late." Mischa Zverev will play against Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round.
John Isner and Taylor Fritz played a "serve battle,“ in which Isner was more successful. Isner didn't lose a serve the entire match, while he broke Fritz's serve twice in the match to win it in straight sets. Isner and Fritz played eight straight service games without losing a point, from 2-2 to 6-6 in the second set.
John's next opponent will be an Israeli Dudi Sela, who beat Marcel Granollers-Pujol 3-2.
Frances Tiafoe, a 19-year-old talent from Maryland, won his first Wimbledon main draw match against Robin Haase. That was one of the greatest performances of his young career, as he proved that he is ready to play on the ATP level. Tiafoe made a huge comeback in the fourth set when he was down 4-1. He broke the Dutchman's serve, saved the set point and then made a break again to secure a 3-1 victory. Tiafoe will play against Alexander Zverev in the second round.
Djokovic, Federer had a similar way to the second round
Novak Djokovic had a 6-3 2-0 lead against Martin Klizan when the Slovak decided to retire. They spent just 43 minutes on the court.
The No.2 seed Djokovic will play against Adam Pavlasek next, who surprised an American Ernesto Escobedo, beating him in four sets.
Roger Federer spent just a one minute more than Djokovic on the court, as his opponent Alexander Dolgopolov retired with an ankle injury after 44 minutes of play. Federer led 6-3 3-0 when Dolgopolov started to feel the pain and realized he is not able to finish the match. "Fedex" will play against the Serbian Dusan Lajovic in the second round.
Klizan and Dolgopolov weren't the only players to retire yesterday. Feliciano Lopez also finished his Wimbledon story too soon, as he was forced to retire against Adrian Mannarino after winning the first set. Lopez tried to play as long as he can, as he made an early break of serve in the fourth set.
But, Mannarino quickly erased that with the two breaks of his own and Lopez retired with just two games away from a loss.
Janko Tipsarevic also retired in the first set against Jared Donaldson, who moved to the second round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career.
