When Sylvester Stallone brought the Rocky saga back to life with "Creed," it was time to create a hero for a new generation with Stallone turning his character of Rocky into the mentor instead of the fighter. It was similar to what Sly tried to do back in "Rocky V" but with a much better actor taking the new lead role.
Now, there is a lot of talk about what fans can expect from "Creed 2," and Sylvester Stallone has a huge idea that will bring back one of his toughest opponents in the franchise as well as someone who will have a huge connection with the new hero Adonis Creed.
Stallone is talking about bringing back Ivan Drago.
Ivan Drago and Adonis Creed
This could be a huge move for the mental stability of Adonis Creed. All Sylvester Stallone fans have to do is look back and remember what brought Rocky back to the ring to fight Ivan Drago. Adonis' dad Apollo Creed was a big part of the first two "Rocky" movies where he proved to have our hero's number. However, in "Rocky IV," Apollo Creed battled Ivan Drago in a special USA vs. Russia boxing match.
During that fight, Ivan Drago was relentless and continued to hit Apollo Creed until he delivered a fatal punch, killing Rocky's former nemesis and friend. Rocky made his comeback to the ring, knowing that Drago could kill him too, but was determined to avenge Apollo's death and beat the big Russian at the end.
"Creed 2"
The big selling point here is that Adonis Creed is the son of Apollo Creed. While Adonis never knew his father, the fact still remains that Ivan Drago killed his dad. There is no word on what role Ivan will play in "Creed 2," but there could be a chance that he could have a son and the two children could fight. Another thought is that Drago could be a coach like Rocky is now and their proteges could battle in the ring.
Sly also teased about a potential rematch on his Instagram post, saying: "Directing APOLLO AND DRAGO , The two best "cinema "boxers that ever lived!… Maybe it's time to try to again?"
Sylvester Stallone and Ivan Drago actor Dolph Lundgren continue to share a close relationship as they get older.
Stallone invited Dolph to be part of the "Expendables" franchise and he played an important role in those movies. While Sly was making huge studio movies over the years, Lundgren used his fame to become one of the biggest B-movie action stars of the '80s and '90s.
With Sylvester Stallone bringing Dolph Lundgren back to the A-list thanks to "The Expendables," it makes sense he would throw out another chance with "Creed 2." The perfect thing about this is that Ivan Drago has a built-in story with both Rocky and Creed and this could provide a very emotional sequel.
