Orioles not going to listen to Manny Machado offers, but others are on the table

Ken Rosenthal reports that the Baltimore Orioles are going to start selling off some of their pieces. However, Manny Machado is off limits. The Orioles are 42-48 and 8.5 games out of the division. A playoff run seems unlikely at this point, but the team doesn't want to sell all of their pieces because they believe they can be competitive in 2018.

What's on the table?

Rosenthal reports that top relievers Zach Britton, Brad Brach, and Darren O'Day are on the trading block.

Then, there's position players such as Seth Smith and Welington Castillo. Britton would be the gem of a trade as he is just year away from his Cy Young-like performance.

Britton pitched to a 0.54 Earned Run Average last season and closed a perfect 47 saves out of 47 opportunities. Britton has dealt with injuries this season as he has only pitched 13 innings, but has five saves to go along with a 2.08 earned run average. Britton is set for arbitration this upcoming season. Brach has been reliable this year with a 3.75 earned run average in 39.1 innings of work. O'Day has a 3.77 earned run average in 31.0 innings pitched.

Smith could provide a contender with a player off the bench. Smith is hitting .259 in 220 at bats. He can play the outfield corner positions. If the Diamondbacks lose out on JD Martinez, Smith could be a low risk, high reward type of player. Castillo has hit .258 on the season. The Chicago Cubs could look into Castillo to be their backup catcher. The familiarity would help as Castillo was once a Cubs prospect.

Any takers?

Count the Nationals out for the bidding for any relievers. The Nationals had the worst bullpen earned run average, but struck a deal with the Oakland Athletics for Sean Doolittle and Ryan Madson. The two players had similar stats to Brach and O'Day, so it's unlikely to see the Nationals talk to Baltimore.

Britton or Brach are likely to be traded if the Orioles are serious about selling. The Dodgers and the Astros are the teams that would go after Britton, according to Rosenthal. Britton's salary could be the hold up as he is set to make $11.3 million. On the other hand, Brach is set to make $3 million.

The asking price might be too much for Britton as well. Last season, the Yankees got the Cubs to give up their No. 1 prospect, and No. 2 overall prospect in all of the majors in Gleyber Torres. The Yankees sent their dominant closer in Aroldis Chapman. The Cubs ended up winning the World Series, and Chapman had a pretty big hand in that. Britton finished fourth in the Cy Young voting results last season, so we'll see if he gets moved.
