The NBA Summer League resumed in Utah on Wednesday, after a break for the Fourth of July holiday. Two of the league's top three draft picks were in action again, as No. 1 pick Markelle Fultz and Sixers, as well as No. 3 pick Jayson Tatum and the Celtics, had separate games. While Tatum and Boston played the San Antonio Spurs' summer squad, Fultz's Sixers took on the Utah Jazz in the late game. This came after a Fultz vs. Tatum showdown a few nights ago. Here's the latest on how each of the two promising rookies performed in their latest contests.
Tatum's double-double
The No. 3 draft pick out of Duke University had another big game. In his first outing, he helped the Boston Celtics defeat the Philadelphia Sixers by hitting the game-winning shot. In tonight's game, Tatum went off for a double-double. The Celtics' rookie scored 23 points to go with 10 rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Tatum was 10-for-18 on his field goals and even connected on a three-pointer.
Unfortunately, Tatum's team was on the losing side in today's action. The Spurs won the game 81-70 behind undrafted guard Bryn Forbes who went off for 31 points. Davis Bertans, a second-round pick from the 2011 draft, added 14 points for the Spurs.
Surprisingly, Boston outshot and out-rebounded their opponents today but still lost due to Tatum getting very little help from his teammates.
The Celtics were outscored 68-49 through the first three quarters and despite a 21-13 fourth, couldn't erase the double-digit deficit.
Fultz leads Sixers
The No. 1 NBA draft pick Markelle Fultz put up 23 points in a loss to the Jazz on Wednesday. He shot 9-for-16 and was 4-of-8 from three-point range. The Sixers rookie also recorded five assists and five rebounds for the night but had six turnovers as well.
Teammate Alex Poythress had 17 points and eight rebounds.

The Utah Jazz won 100-94 and got another solid contribution from Dante Exum. The guard shot 9-for-16 from the field, including 3-for-5 from downtown.
He finished with a game-high 26 points and 10 assists for the double-double, along with five rebounds.
Adding to the Jazz effort was rookie guard Donovan Mitchell, who put up 15 points. Earlier in the day, Mitchell officially signed his rookie contract with the team. Today's performance followed up a summer league debut where he put up 23 points against the Spurs.
Next up, the Philadelphia Sixers will face the San Antonio Spurs on Thursday. The Boston Celtics will face the Utah Jazz, also on Thursday, the final day for NBA Summer League Utah.
