At Sunday's WWE "Battleground" 2017 pay-per-view, fans will get to see the return of superstar John Cena. He was last seen at WWE's "WrestleMania 33" when he and girlfriend Nikki Bella defeated The Miz and Maryse. Following the match, Cena proposed to Nikki and she said "Yes." Now Cena has to defend the honor of his country in a Flag Match this coming Sunday at the WWE "Battleground" PPV. Here is the latest John Cena vs. Rusev Flag Match preview and predictions for who might win.

Match Preview

John Cena's return to WWE "SmackDown Live" came on the patriotic July 4th episode.

However, his appearance on the show was also interrupted by "The Bulgarian Brute." From there, Rusev challenged Cena to a major Flag Match at the upcoming "Battleground" pay-per-view. Cena, of course, accepted the challenge.

Things got even more heated on last week's episode of "SmackDown" when Cena was attacked in the ring by Rusev. The segment ended up with Rusev locking a Camel Clutch submission hold onto Cena for a while. Once he finally released the hold and went back up the ramp, Rusev waved his flag around, almost as if giving a preview of what could happen on Sunday.

This won't be the first time that John Cena and Rusev have gone at it in the ring. The two competitors have quite the history including The two superstars competed at "Extreme Rules" 2015 in a Russian Chain match with Cena's U.S.

title on the line. Cena grabbed the win in that stipulation match. There was also the "I Quit" match at WWE "Payback" 2015. Rusev ended up winning that bout, but Cena never officially quit. Instead, he passed out while locked into Rusev's submission hold. Will that be the case again on Sunday?

Predicted Winner

It's no surprise that John Cena has been the favorite to win for weeks now.

The match marks a return for both of these superstars to the ring, as Rusev had been out of action for some time due to injury. He was drafted over to WWE "SmackDown Live" with Lana, but the two have split up, on the show at least.

A loss for Rusev probably won't hurt him too much, and WWE fans will be treated to the hoisting of the American flag.

Rusev has won previous flag matches he participated in, so this would be Cena gaining a measure of revenge for the American people.

WIth a win, Cena would probably move on to better things. That could mean either a match for the WWE Championship against whoever has the belt at WWE "SummerSlam," or against AJ Styles for the United States Championship.

Who will win this Sunday's Flag match involving John Cena and Rusev at "Battleground" 2017?
