The Cleveland Cavaliers finally caught a good fish during free agency. In a sudden twist of fate, former MVP Derrick Rose allegedly agreed to a one year $2.1 million minimum veteran salary with the team. Cavs Fans are hoping that a DeAndre Jordan 2 fiasco will not happen to the team. With this alleged agreement, all MVP from 2009 - 2016 are playing for either the Cavs or the Golden State Warriors.
In a report on MSN Sports, this positive development lifted some pressure on the organization’s shoulders on account of the Kyrie Irving drama. Derick Rose can fill in in the starting point guard position in case Kyrie gets traded to another team.
D-Rose can come off the bench if “Uncle Drew” decides to stay this season. This development is a big step in their quest to dethrone the Golden State Warriors this season. They may not be on par yet with the firepower of the Warriors, but this a move in the right decision.
LeBron James happy with Derrick Rose development
Former MVP Derrick Rose spent his first eight years in the league with the Chicago Bulls. He was voted Season MVP in 2011 while playing with them. His career is marked by knee injuries almost every season recently. In a controversial decision, he was traded to the New York Knicks last year. The Wine & Gold ball club will be his third team in three years.
LeBron James tweeted his welcome for the former MVP after hearing the development.
His tweet said he is excited to see the Windy City Assassin in a Cleveland uniform. Fans also see this as a dig to Kyrie Irving who is asking for a trade. D-Rose could be the next Robin to LeBron’s Batman. Cavs fanatics are all excited to see their partnership on the court.
What to do with Kyrie Irving
Going to the other side of the fence, basketball aficionados are waiting for further development on the Kyrie Irving drama.
It can be remembered that the star point guard requested to be traded to another team. He told Cavs owner Dan Gilbert that he no longer wants to play alongside LeBron James anymore. He intends to play on a team where he is the primary guy on the court. He prefers the Timberwolves, Spurs, Heat, or even the Knicks as a new team.
The possible inclusion of D-Rose in the Cavs roster open up a lot of possibilities on what can be done with the Irving trade request. The first option could be to talk him out of it. Stay with a club and campaign another championship with James. The second option would ship him to New York. These moves have two options. Direct trade with Carmelo Anthony plus future picks. A second option would be asking the Knicks organization to buy Melo’s contract, sign him for a veteran’s minimum salary and in return, they will trade Kyrie for future drafts.
The second option would be a trade with the San Antonio Spurs. The Cavs could ship Kyrie and Iman Shumpert for LaMarcus Aldridge and Patty Mills. The Spurs would be getting the point guard and a small guard soon on account of Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili getting of age. The Cavs for their part would have an excellent back-up for James. They would have enough breathing space in the salary cap and luxury tax as well.
