Kyrie Irving has been hinting that he wants to play for the New York Knicks after reports confirmed he no longer wants to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers and be in LeBron James’ shadow. However, Carmelo Anthony will not waive his no-trade clause for the Cavs as he is set on wanting to play for the Houston Rockets.
According to NJ.com, in order for the New York Knicks to get Irving, a trade involving Anthony is needed. Anthony does not want to play for the Cavs and made it clear that he wants to be traded only to the Houston Rockets. As Anthony is not willing to push through with a possible deal with the Cavs, there is no other player that the Knicks could offer in order to acquire Irving.
Anthony made it clear in the past reports that he wants to play alongside James Harden and Chris Paul with the Houston Rockets.
Knicks will probably not offer Kristaps Porzingis for Irving
Another possible deal to bring Irving to the New York Knicks is if the NBA team will let go of Kristaps Porzingis, NESN reported. However, the possibility for that scenario to come into play is slim to none since Knicks is set on building a younger roster this offseason before the start of the 2017-2018 Season. If the deal pushes through with the New York Knicks, Irving could help Porzingis as he is a four-time All-Star. He also scored 25.2 points per game last season with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
According to Bleacher Report, Irving is also considering other teams like Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves, and San Antonio Spurs.
Portland Trail Blazers trades Allen Crabbe to get Anthony?
In a previous report, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum of Portland Trail Blazers said that they reached out to Anthony so that the NBA player will consider joining their team. McCollum said that if they had Anthony on their team, they would be one of the top three teams in the West.
However, Anthony is reportedly set on going to Houston Rockets and is not considering any other team for him to waive his no-trade clause.
Portland Trail Blazers removed Allen Crabbe for Andrew Nicholson in a trade with the Brooklyn Nets. Crabbe’s salary kept Blazers from making moves and acquiring players this offseason but now that he is with the Nets, Blazers saved $16.5 million.
According to Posting and Toasting, this move of the Portland Trail Blazers might be because they are still hoping that they can acquire Anthony from the New York Knicks.
If Anthony is no longer set to go to Houston Rockets, New York Knicks could get Moe Harkless and Meyers Leonard.
