Vince Biegel was thrilled to join the Green Bay Packers, but he better be ready to make a big contribution. Green Bay was awful on defense last season, and they were completely exposed by a Falcons offense that thoroughly thrashed them in the playoffs. To address the problems, the Packers spent several draft picks on defensive players. One of those players was fourth round pick Vince Biegel, who is expected to provide depth at the linebacker position.

Vince Biegel Hometown Hero?

As a University of Wisconsin player, Biegel already has the support of his hometown fans.

He's ready to show up and show out for a Packers team that really needs his skills. And Biegel is already showing that he is willing to put the time in. On the first day of practice, Vince was the first one there, and he sat in the front row at a team meeting. That was enough to impress head coach Mike McCarthy, who suggested that Biegel was off to a "great start."

That's likely the kind of discipline and work ethic the team was expecting from a player like Biegel, and the Packers have to be glad he is already delivering results. But the expectations for Biegel become even bigger when you realize which locker he was assigned.

Vince Biegel's Locker.

The Packers have strategically sandwiched Biegel's locker between veteran linebacker Clay Matthews and defender Nick Perry, who led the Packers in sacks last year.

Those are two pretty difficult players to live up to, but the Packers have already made it clear that they expect big things from Vince in the future.

Biegel even recognized the statement and did say that he realized "just how much the Packers were expecting from him." If he delivers a performance even half as good as Clay Matthews' last year, Green Bay will have to be satisfied with the results of Biegel's rookie season.

Temper Expectations.

Of course, Vince Biegel isn't exactly a league veteran. There's no way he's going to step into a linebacker position and immediately contribute in the way that Clay Matthews does for Green Bay. Instead, he'll have to learn in training camp and from the wily veterans how to become an elite star. If early signs are any indication, Biegel is willing to put in the work to become a star in this league.

Now Packers fans will just have to wait and see just how this kid blossoms. They are certainly hoping that he will at least contribute to the defensive effort this year and that he becomes a rock solid starter in future seasons.
