In Sunday's late game on the WNBA schedule, the Seattle storm host the winless San Antonio Stars. The game will feature not only the Stars attempting to capture a first win of the season, but also the return of a local star to where she played college basketball. The Stars' No. 1 draft pick Kelsey Plum played for Washington and will certainly receive a warm welcome. She'll hope being back in her old stomping grounds helps get her back into the scoring mood as she has yet to find it in her early WNBA career.
Game preview
Much like the previous WNBA campaign, San Antonio has started out their season with another disappointing start.
The team is now 0-10 and has been unable to find a way to win. Rookie Kelsey Plum has yet to pay the dividends their team wants after taking her with the top pick in the WNBA Draft.
However, an early sprained ankle injury hampered the start to her pro career, and she's averaging just 3.6 points on 25.7 percent shooting in 14.1 minutes per game. It's possible playing in front of some home area fans will help inspire her to get numbers similar to those she had at Washington where Plum never scored less than 20 points in her senior year.
The Seattle Storm come into the game with a 5-5 record and are sitting at fourth in the Western Division right now. Despite a decent start to their season, they've dropped three-straight games now, including a 91-86 overtime loss to the Atlanta Dream.
In that game, Jewell Loyd led Seattle with 27 points but her team was outscored 14-9 in the extra session, giving Atlanta the road win. Tonight's game will certainly be a bounce back for Sue Bird and the Storm, although one has to think the Stars really want to end their own losing streak.
The Odds Shark website has Seattle as strong favorites at home, with 9.5 points in their favor on the spread.
On the moneyline, the Storm is a large favorite of -600 at some books. San Antonio is priced at as much as +475 at some sports books. The over/under points total is at 161 points at various sports books as of this report.
