The stars of the Monster Energy Cup Series are once again heading out West as teams and drivers get prepared to take on their first road course racetrack of the season The teams will head out to California Hills to Sonoma Raceway for the Toyota Savemart 350.

The drivers and teams will be challenged to a 1.99-mile road course with 10 turns. The course features many challenges for these drivers but one thing is for certain, these drivers will be turning left and right.

Last year’s race was a memorable one as recently retired Tony Stewart used his bumper to pass Denny Hamlin on the final lap to take home the checkered flag. It ended Stewart’s three-year winless streak and was an overall popular race win for the 2016 NASCAR season.

Last week’s winner Kyle Larson will be looking to get his first career win on a road course while others are hoping to spoil the fun and take home the checkered flag for the weekend.

There are currently 38 drivers listed for the race featuring NASCAR’s big superstars but also featuring others who are making their first start of the season.

Some of the changes include Boris Said who is replacing Jeffrey Earnhardt in the No. 33 Circle Sport/ The Motorsports Group Chevrolet, Billy Johnson replacing Darrell Wallace Jr (who was subbing for the injured Aric Almirola) in the No. 43 Richard Petty Motorsports Ford and Josh Bilicki who will me making his Cup debut in No. 51 Rick Ware Racing Chevrolet.

Hornish looking to defend crown at Iowa

The NASCAR Xfinity Series teams will be heading to iowa Speedway for the American Ethanol E15 250. It’s the first of two trips the series will be making to the 7/8 mile facility located in Newton Iowa.

One of the key storylines heading into the weekend are the drivers who are there.

Usually, you would see Cup drivers take the double dip and race in the Xfinity series whenever the series was at the same track with Cup guys. However, with the Cup stars in California, the Xfinity stars will be duking it out with one another for the win.

One driver to keep an eye on this weekend in this race is Sam Hornish Jr. Hornish. The two-time winner at Iowa won last year after leading 183 of the 250 laps with the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing. Hornish comes back to the team that started his racing career with Team Penske and hopes he can visit victory lane once again with No. 22 Team Penske Ford.

The race will be on Saturday at 8:00 (ET) on FS1.

Trucks set out for Iowa

It was only a few days ago that John Hunter Nemechek took home his first victory of the season at Gateway Motorsports Park.

Now he and others will only have a few days to relax before they make their way to Iowa Speedway for the M&M’s 200.

One thing to keep an eye on in this race is whether Kyle Busch Motorsports can keep their winning streak going. In the last three years, this race has seen a KBM truck end up in victory lane (two with Erik Jones and one with William Byron). Toyota also has a streak going into this weekend as a Toyota driver has wound up in victory lane in four of the last five years.

Chase Briscoe will be one driver to keep an eye on heading into the weekend. In the last two truck races, Briscoe has finished second both times: a second at Texas and second at Gateway. Heading into another short track facility, Briscoe is hoping and he the team can improve their position by one spot and claim his career truck win.

The race will be on Friday at 8:30 (ET) on FS1
