As the Golden State Warriors move just one game away from sweeping LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals, some fans are comparing the Warriors to James' old team, the Miami Heat. There were always complaints about the Heat building a super team and now it looks like the Warriors have done the same thing. However, James sees this as a completely different occurrence and said that the Warriors adding Kevin Durant was different than anything that happened in Miami.
Building a super team in the NBA
According to LeBron James, here is how the Miami Heat built their super team that dominated the Eastern Conference and the NBA Finals.
LeBron said that Dwyane Wade was already in Miami and the team was successful with Shaquille O'Neal before he arrived. LeBron said that he and Chris Bosh signed with the Heat and they had to build the team in Miami.
LeBron compared it to when he left Miami and returned to Cleveland. James said that he once again had to build something in Cleveland with Kyrie Irving and bringing in Kevin Love. James said that, at both stops, he went in and helped build the Cavaliers into a contender.
However, the Golden State Warriors adding Kevin Durant was completely different. LeBron said that the Warriors were already a championship team with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson. However, they then added an MVP in Kevin Durant to a team that was already put together and just made it stronger.
Parity in the NBA
The biggest complaint about the NBA right now is the lack of parity. This is the third year in a row that the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers have faced in the NBA Finals. When Kevin Durant left the Oklahoma City Thunder, who have always been a contender in the West, for the Warriors, it widened the gap even more between teams.
Kevin Durant was asked about it and said if fans were bored with the teams who are winning, they could change the channel and watch something else. It seemed a strange comment for a player who is paid millions to work for the NBA to suddenly tell fans to turn the NBA off but he was saying that fans don't have to watch if they just want to complain.
LeBron James was a little smarter in his comments than Durant. When asked about the parity and whether it was fair, LeBron said he didn't really care. While Durant told fans to stop watching the NBA, James pointed out how high the current ratings were for the NBA playoffs. To James, super teams like the Miami Heat and Golden State Warriors are good for basketball.
