There has been a lot of talk this week about “super teams.” The talk is both about the Golden State Warriors buying MVP Kevin Durant to help them get past LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as LeBron’s own past. Not only did LeBron James help build a super team with the Miami Heat, he did it again with the Cleveland Cavaliers. However, for Heat fans who miss the super team that LeBron brought to Miami, former Heat superstar Alonzo Mourning has a positive outlook for the city.

Alonzo Mourning spoke to the Palm Beach Post and said he sees a bright future for the Miami Heat.

As a matter of fact, Mourning said that he believes Pat Riley can build something in Miami that is even better than LeBron James’ Heat team that won multiple championships.

Alonzo Mourning talks

Alonzo Mourning knows that the Miami Heat fans love championships. He won one with the team while playing alongside Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O’Neal in 2006. After retiring in 2008, Mourning also watched the Heat go to four straight NBA Finals, winning two of them, behind Wade, LeBron James, and Chris Bosh.

While talking about his old franchise, Alonzo Mourning explained that Pat Riley was thrown into a tough situation when LeBron James left the Miami Heat to go back to the Cleveland Cavaliers. It got worse when Chris Bosh saw his career hit a roadblock due to injuries, and then Dwyane Wade left for the Chicago Bulls.

Mourning said that the team needed to rebuild, and that is where the optimism lies.

A bright future for the Miami Heat

The entire reason that Alonzo Mourning sees a bright future for the Miami Heat is because of Pat Riley. When Mourning and O’Neal left the Heat, Riley was able to assemble a lineup that went to four straight NBA Finals.

When Riley was with the Los Angeles Lakers, he was able to routinely assemble championship-caliber teams. Mourning said that Riley is one of the “greatest basketball architects” in the world.

Alonzo Mourning said that Pat Riley knows how to build a winning franchise and he knows what it takes to win. Mourning said that he believes this will be no different and that Riley will build another Miami Heat roster that will compete for NBA titles once again.

Alonzo then took it one step further and said that what Riley builds in Miami next could be even more special than what they had with LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh. If Riley is able to pull that off, there would be no denying his genius at that point.
