The New York Jets have suffered through some tough times the last two years and things just seem to be getting worse. On Sunday, Jets' wide receiver Robby Anderson was at the Rolling Loud music festival and ended up going to jail. Reports indicate that Anderson was asked to leave and got into a fight with security before also fighting with police at the scene.
The Robby Anderson arrest
Robby Anderson was at the Rolling Loud music festival when the brawl started. According to the police report from the scene, the New York Jets receiver was asked to leave and he refused. He then allegedly started to fight with security guards and still refused to leave. A police officer showed up and told Anderson to sit on the ground and he refused, tensing up. Anderson then allegedly pushed the police officer and then was driven to the ground. According to the police report, Anderson continued to fight with both police and security guards. Interestingly, the police report does not indicate that there was any alcohol or drugs involved in the incident.
The Robby Anderson fallout
According to the police report, Robby Anderson will go to his hearing on May 15 to answer for the charges. The New York Jets were contacted by ESPN and acknowledged that there is a legal situation but chose not to comment at this time. They said that since this is a pending legal matter they will not make a comment until further information is gathered. This isn't the first problem that the Jets have faced this offseason. They already lost their number one receiver in Brandon Marshall to the New York Giants. They also learned that receiver Jalin Marshall will face a four-game drug suspension and tight end Austin Seferian-Jankins is facing a two-game suspension as the result of an arrest in 2016 for a DUI.
The 2017 season is looking tough for the Jets receiver corps.
Who is Robby Anderson?
Robby Anderson was an undrafted free agent from Temple that made the Jets' team in 2016. He got his first catch in Week 3 and soon became a regular part of the passing offense. Anderson finished the season with 42 receptions for 587 yards and two touchdowns. In a season where the quarterback play was horrible, Anderson was a slight glimmer of hope for the New York Jets. Only Brandon Marshall, who has left for the New York Giants, and Quincy Enunwa, had more receptions than Anderson. He had a good chance of earning a starting role in 2017 but the arrest may throw a wrench into those plans.
