It is not just WWE wrestler Paige who is reeling from the unauthorized leak of her nude photos and an alleged X-rated sex tape. Her fiancé, fellow wrestler Alberto Del Rio – who was suspended in 2016 for violation of the promotion’s Wellness Policy – would skip the WrestleCon to be by the side of his embattled girlfriend.
Not leaving her side
Alberto Del Rio is supposed to meet fans at the Wrestlemania’s WrestleCon on March 31 to April 1 in Orlando, Florida. But the 39-year-old WWE wrestler said he would not show up to stay close to Paige as she copes with a traumatic experience, Hollywood Life reported.
In an announcement on Thursday through PrimeTime appearances, Del Rio said because of the invasion of their privacy; he must be home with Paige who needs him more at the moment.
On March 17, the raunchy video clip and naked images of Paige – Saraya-Jade Bevis in real life – were leaked. It showed the 24-year-old WWE wrestler in intimate moments with a man who was her lover before she entered into a relationship with Alberto Del Rio. In a tweet, Paige said that her personal and private photos were stolen and shared publicly without her consent.
She did not mention the sex tape. Although other WWE wrestlers and the fans of Paige supported her, it was too late to prevent the spread of the disturbing images that had circulated widely on the Internet.
Other female wrestlers too
Besides Paige, other female fighters were included in the expanding sex tape scandal, including Maria – or Maria Louise Kanellis-Bennett, Summer Rae and Kaitlyn. But not all female wrestlers with sex tapes were victims of filched images. Joanie “Chyna” Laurer, who left WWE in 2001 after her ex-boyfriend Triple H allegedly had a secret affair with Stephanie McMahon, starred in 2004 in a homemade sex video tape with her lover then, Sean “X-Pac” Waltman.
She sold the raunchy tape to Red Light District Video which retailed more than 100,000 copies of the X-rated film. In 2009, she made a sequel, “Another Night in China.”
Another WWE wrestler, Mickie James, was the topic of online fans for years because of her explicit photos in 2005. Her affair with fellow WWE star John Cena in 2007 made Mickie James the center of a locker room scandal after Kenny Dykstra, her ex-fiance and a member of Spirit Squad, made public her affair with Cena, The Sun reported.
Del Rio’s suspension
John Cena was the one who beat Alberto Del Rio on “SmackDown Live.” WWE announced Del Rio’s suspension, beginning on Aug. 18, a day after their match. He was on a losing streak for about one year after his return to the promotions in October 2015. His last win was against Jose Alberto Rodriguez in Lucha Underground where he fought using the name Alberto El Patron.
