Washington Redskins quarterback Kirk Cousins is just like everybody else. He wants the revelation of his baby's sex to be put on full display in some spectacular way for the whole world to celebrate. He did so with a special video with his wife on Friday, although not without some playful ribbing directed at the method of messaging involved.
Baby reveal mishap
All Cousins had to do was toss a football at an unmarked box and the world would know the sex of his forthcoming child. The task seemed easy enough - he's the starting quarterback of the Washington Redskins, one of 32 teams in the NFL; someone of his stature needs to be able to make the tiny throw.
The Atlanta backyard the family calls home in the offseason was the perfect grounds to make dreams become reality for all of the universe to see.
The good news is that Cousins and his wife are having a boy and they couldn't seem happier about it. The bad news is that the Redskins quarterback may have cost himself some significant capital for his next contract negotiation. The ball barely grazed the lower left side of the question mark adorned box, leading to blue smoke billowing from the cardboard. Were it not for the circumstances, his wife would have permission to be disappointed in the throw.
Where will the baby be raised?
The schedule hasn't been released yet, but Julie Cousins is due sometime around Week 2.
It's unclear if that means the Redskins will be home or away and the quarterback has yet to commit to being present or missing time during the week. Then again, the debate may be irrelevant for his current team soon enough.
Over the past coupe of weeks, the chatter around an imminent departure from Washington has calmed, slightly.
Prior to that, however, it seemed like a distinct possibility that Cousins could be out the door, potentially to reunite with his former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. After signing his franchise tag for the second straight year, however, it appears he will become a father while living in the nation's capital.
