The Oscars dominated Sunday, but we couldn't forget about the slate of NBA games. With eight games happening Sunday, we were entertained, as many games gave us some suspense. Cousins got his 18th tech, which might get him suspended for his next game, and the Pistons retired Rip Hamilton's jersey against the Celtics today. Let's not forget about Brandon Ingram is initiated in the NBA following getting dunked on by Simmons.
IT4 ruins Hamilton's day
The Celtics are trying to make up ground on the Cavs, who lost Saturday night to the Bulls. The took on the Pistons on the day Pistons' legend Richard Hamilton's jersey was being retired.
Isaiah Thomas had no intentions of letting the Pistons get to enjoy it the right way, as he dropped 33 points, leading the way for a win that was closer than they liked. Rookie Jaylen Brown iced the game with a corner three, putting a rush among the hostile crowd. The Celtics ended up winning 104-98 and come a game closer to the Cavs for the number one spot.
Derozan lead Raptors
The Raptors are coming in fresh off a win against the Celtics Friday night. Sunday they face a Trailblazers team that is performing well under their expectations. Damian Lillard kept them in it, scoring 28 points, but Demar Derozan was even better, putting up33 of his own leading the Raptors to an 112-106 win. Recently acquired forward Serge Ibaka added 18 points as well.
The Raptors move to 34-24, and the Blazers fall to 24-34.
Hayward drops the Wizards
Gordon Hayward shot 50 percent from the field, scoring 30 points as the Jazz took down the Wizards for their third straight win. Gobert added 15 points and 20 boards. John Wall had another great performance, putting up 23 and 11. The Wizards shot 36 percent from three-point land, which is a big part of their offense.
They also got dominate on the boards getting 27 rebounds the whole game.
Conley Carries Grizzlies
Michael Conley dropped 13 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter, propelling the Grizzlies to a 105-98 win over the Nuggets. Zach Randolph added 20 from the bench, as the Grizz grinded out another win. The Nuggets high scorer was Gallinari who dropped 24 points.
The Both teams struggled from deep, not even reaching 40 percent. Denver is winless when they fail to reach 100 points, falling to 0-12.
Greek Freak leads the way
Giannis Antetokounmpo got into a shoving match with Marquese Chriss early in the game, but it didn't phase him, as he dropped 28 points on the Suns. The Suns made it a close game, but Milwaukee escaped with a win 100-96. Five technical fouls were called during the game, as both teams need to be separated on different occasions. T.J Warren led the Suns with 23 points, but the Suns fell once again despite their good record against the east.
Spurs slam Lakers
In the Lakers first home game since Magic Johnson's hiring, the Lakers took on the Spurs.
Simply put, the Spurs slammed the Lakers. Kawhi Leonard put up 25, and that was pretty much it. Brandon Ingram had a good game, putting up 20 points, but got posterized by Dewayne Dedmon. Spurs won 119-98.
Russell Westbrook carries OKC
Russell Westbrook puts up 41 points in a triple-double performance as the Thunder beat the Pelicans 118-110. Westbrook now has 29 triple-doubles on the season, as he isn't slowing down after the all-star break. Demarcus Cousins received his 18th tech this game and is now up for suspension if it isn't rescinded. The Pelicans are 0-3 since the Boogie trade.
Clippers win OT Thriller
The Clippers won an OT thriller against the Hornets 124-121. Blake Griffin erupted for 43 points leading the Clippers.
The Hornets were led by Kemba Walker, who scored 34 points. Each team traded 3-point bombs in the fourth quarter, leading it to OT. The Clippers needed this win, as they have stumbled out the gates after the all-star break. The Hornets fall to 25-34 as they need wins to make a move in the East.
