Winter transfer window is now open in the English Premier League. Managers and their technical crew are set to work out the best plan of addition for their teams. The spotlight is on Arsenal and Liverpool who face each other on Wednesday January 13, 2016.

Liverpool's defense

Liverpool have reportedly made a loan move for Queens Park Rangers centre-back Steven Caulker to boost up their defense to keep the Gunners back knowing fully well that Steven Caulker is an experienced EPL player right from his days at Stoke City.

Liverpool are currently lacking experience at the back with key defenders like Martin Skrtel, Dejan Lovren, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure all spending time on the sidelines.

This constraint made the Red's boss, Jürgen Klopp, recall Thiago Llori from his loan at Aston Villa and the Portuguese youngster was featured alongside left-back Jose Enrique during Friday’s 2-2 FA Cup third round draw at Exeter City.

Nevertheless, Toure and Sakho are due to return to the squad for Wednesday’s clash with Arsenal, while Lovren is still doubtful.

Sources claimed that Liverpool are hoping to get a deal agreed in time for Caulker to train with the Liverpool squad on Tuesday ahead of Arsenal match on Wednesday night.

For Caulker, a move to Liverpool would boost his profile as a professional and his partnership with Skrtel whenever he returns might be a very good pairing for the Reds.

Arsenal's midfield

On the other hand, Arsenal will be confirming the signature of Mohamed Elneny soon. Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has reiterated that Elneny would become the club's first January signing before the end of the week.

Elneny has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates with a fee believed to be up to £7million. Reports claims that the Basel star has completed his medical already and personal terms have been agreed.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference on Tuesday Morning, ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Liverpool, Wenger told reporters that Elneny is being held up by work permit and paperwork issues, which will be resolved soon.

Elneny’s arrival will be an important addition to the Gunners who are currently lacking  experience in the middle of the park. They are currently missing the services of Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Jack Wilshere who are all on the sidelines.
