While Avengers 4 is being released next year and is marking the end of Phase 3 for Marvel, reports are coming in that Marvel Studios has completed a script for the Dark Avengers storyline. While the script may be completed, ScreenRant has pointed out that Marvel Studios has scripts for dozens of projects, but not all of them will make it to the big screen.
It seems like a longshot that Marvel will approve this film, but a script has been completed and ready to go. The new project could help fill some holes left by the probable exits of Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., and Chris Hemsworth.
Dark Avengers could also be used to lead into the post-Avengers 4 world.
The characters were all originally a group of super villains led by Norman Osborn. The team operates in the same style as DC Comics' Suicide Squad. Osborn, as leader, would also gain control of S.H.I.E.L.D., which he turns into HAMMER. In this storyline, the team is more about showing off their power than saving the day.
Captain Marvel is key to the Dark Avengers
According to ComicBook, the upcoming "Captain Marvel," film is being based on the "Kree-Skrull War," which would signal that Marvel is considering building on these events and launch the Secret Invasion, introducing the MCU to a new line of "heroes," which could do battle for years to come.
Adapting this storyline for the current MCU is quite an undertaking, but the possibility of a government controlled super-team is already a close reality. With S.H.I.E.L.D. shut down across the MCU and Nick Fury, no longer in charge anymore, the Dark Avengers could be the ones who give Spider-Man his new suit.
Marvel has yet to greenlight production of Dark Avengers
Expectations of seeing the super-villain team up on the big screen are still low. However, with Captain Marvel focusing on the Skrulls, Marvel may be gearing up to introduce the Dark Avengers to comic fans. Marvel fans have previously taken to social media to theorize on the possibility of what a Dark Avengers movie would do for the future of the MCU.
Right now Marvel has not publicly confirmed or announced any plans for this movie, but they are all ready to introduce the new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. All that is needed now is for a director to step up and get the ball rolling. No matter what, Marvel is at least considering the potential of a movie, so we just have to wait and see what happens. Marvel has also been quiet on what the future of the MCU will be like once Avengers 4 has been completed and many actors/actresses have retired.
