Keanu Reeves announces the title of the third John Wick movie: 'Parabellum'

One of the surprise hits of 2014 was the Keanu Reeves movie "john wick." Reeves, who had not had a major hit since the Matrix trilogy starred in that original movie as a former hitman named John Wick. While retired, Wick had lost his wife and was living a lonely and desperate life. When he was asked to come out of retirement to pull off a job, and refused, he was beaten and left for dead.

They also killed his dog, which was enough to bring Wick out of retirement to kill everyone who dared re-enter his life. After a sequel in 2017, the third movie was announced for a 2019 release.

The new title for 'John Wick 3'

Keanu Reeves made the announcement of the new title of the movie in an interview with Coming Soon. In that interview, Reeves said that the new movie is subtitled "Parabellum,' which he explained meant "prepare for war." Reeves said that there is a famous sentence -- "Si vis pacem, para bellum" -- and that means that if you want peace you have to prepare for war.

While the first movie was about John Wick setting out for revenge after the bad guys killed his dog, "John Wick: Chapter 2" saw the former hitman on the run after a bounty is placed on him.

It also took a dark turn when Wick found himself banned from The Continental Hotel when he commits a murder in the walls. This eliminates the only ally that Wick had.

'John Wick 3' - Parabellum

With John no longer able to turn to The Continental Hotel for help (which also eliminates his weapon supplier as well), he is truly on his own. He is also on the run, as a global bounty was placed on his head after his actions inside the hotel. This means that every killer in the world will get rich if they can find and kill him.

That opens the door for what is expected to be one of the biggest action Movies in years. While the first two John Wick movies were full of frenetic action and style, the all-out war promised in this third edition looks like it will blow even those out of the water.

Joining Keanu Reeves in "John Wick 3 - Parabellum" is Halle Berry, who will play a character named Sofia. Reeves said that his character is fighting for his life and that Sofia is someone he has a past with that can help him. Berry also recently appeared in the similar action movie "Kingsman: The Golden Circle."

Also joining the two in "John Wick 3 - Parabellum" are Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Anjelica Huston, Jason Mantzoukas, Asia Kate Dillon, Lance Reddick and Mark Dacascos. The movie hits on May 17, 2019.
