The world stood still for a few hours as people watched the final scenes of the fairy tale romance between the Apache helicopter pilot Prince Harry and the American actress Meghan Markle. The venue was St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle and the program was watched by selected guests who were present on the occasion apart from millions of fans across the globe. The proceedings were telecast live via different networks. Sky News reports that the happy couple smiled and held hands at the altar before exchanging vows in front of those present. Prince Harry was dressed in military uniform, and they shared a tender kiss on the steps of the chapel after they became husband and wife.

Meghan's mother Doria Ragland was present at the wedding.

The sequence of events

Megan’s father was unable to attend the wedding because of health issues that required hospitalization. Therefore, Prince Charles met the bride, Megan Markle, at the start of the Quire and walked her down the aisle. Her mother walked through the Nave of the chapel on her own. She was followed by the team of bridesmaids and pageboys. Among them were Prince George and Princess Charlotte, the children of William and Kate.

Prince Harry had arrived at the ceremony before Meghan. He was accompanied by his elder brother Prince William, who was also Harry’s best man. Harry and Meghan will henceforth be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, post marriage.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry came to know each other through a blind date arranged by a common friend and announced their engagement after a 16-month romance.

There were nearly 600 guests and around 30 of them belonged to the Royal Family. They included the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. His age is 96 and he was recovering from a recent hip operation.

Celebrities present at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were television star Oprah Winfrey, actor Idris Elba and Earl Spencer, the brother of Diana, Princess of Wales. Among others were George Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney, the Beckhams, David and Victoria, Serena Williams, Sir Elton John and Meghan’s former co-stars from the TV drama “Suits.”

Meghan, the American actress, has entered a new phase in her life.

She has already won over the members of the royal family and has had a positive influence on Harry. She has managed to wean him away from habits that were not healthy. Both she and Harry share many common interests and together they can make a difference in society through charity work. Let us wish the couple a happy married life.
