The third chapter in FX’s smash hit series ‘american crime story’ has officially been green-lit and is now in the works. The third season will focus on Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath which devastated New Orleans in 2005.

This chapter was scheduled to be for season two but was replaced with “The Assassination of Gianni Versace,” which was released in January. Season one was focused on the trial of OJ Simpson in 1997. Katrina was scheduled to begin filming in 2018. It’s in the early days of production. Katrina is expected to be released in January 2019.

Season three will bring back old cast members

The cast has not been officially confirmed by FX yet. However, it’s been rumored that one of Ryan Murphy’s preferred actresses is slated to be in season three. Sarah Paulson, who was previously seen in Season one, portraying Marcia Clark in "The People V OJ Simpson." She was previously in several seasons of the popular “American Horror Story.”

Other former castmates rumored to return are Cuba Gooding Jr and Courtney B. Vance. The Hollywood Reporter has said that several newcomers will include Annette Benning, Matthew Broderick, and Dennis Quaid. Dennis Quaid is expected to play President George W. Bush.

The next season will focus on Hurricane Katrina with the story taken from the book Five Days at Memorial: Life and Death in a Storm-Ravaged Hospital.

The book focuses on a local hospital where thousands were trapped without power during the hurricane. According to the book, several of those on the medical team were forced to decide to euthanize several critically ill patients.

Season three will be a medical thriller

Murphy told The Hollywood Reporter that the story will be a deep look into the healthcare industry, natural disasters, and global warming.

Producer Nina Jacobson has said that with OJ being a courtroom drama and Versace a thriller, Katrina will be a medical thriller. FX Network CEO John Landgraf has told Deadline that the plot made a giant change to a different source material.

Season four is rumored to tell the Monica Lewinsky story. The season will be based on the book “A Vast Conspiracy.” THR reported that Murphy recently acquired the rights to the book.

Murphy says he wants to meet with Lewinsky to make sure he properly gets her side of the story right and to hear who she would want to portray her in the season if the season were to happen. Season one is now available on Netflix, but it’s uncertain if and when season two will be available on the streaming platform.
